Title: Sol Campbell
Post by: spacekid2009 on 20 January 2010, 17:55:38
Poor old Sol, he's chasing portsmouth for £1.67m that he's owed, portsmouth are having massive money problems at the moment and can't pay current players wages, Sol Campbell reported to be worth an estimated £26m, so doesn't need the money, but he is owed it fair and square, should he be chasing them for this money, which could be the final nail in pompeys coffin, or should he just let it go?

Portsmouth were happy to sign a contract with him,so tough t*****s, contracts work both ways, they will have plenty of clauses on his contract, behavior, fitness, etc allowing them to drop him without a penny, this has more to do with the muppets who bought the club ,who it turns out are a bunch of shysters with no money. >:( >:(

there was a rumour he was to join the baggies for a while, his pay demands were so great and out of synch with the rest of the squads wages it would only lead to trouble. Hear they even considered him on a "pay as you play" basis. Getting on a bit now but still got something to offer but (like many of his type)overpaid and greedy imho

in the next few years there will be a lot more clubs that will end up this way through signing on fees, high wages and bonuses. the high prices on the turnstiles will be too much for the average guy to afford. man and boy is about 100 quid for a game at chelsea. most clubs will not get the revenue each week to cover the outgoings.
the glazier family bought man utd with a debt of 790m in 2005 will they ever be able to pay this all back which is still running into hundreds of millions??

Happened to Watford a few years back. Tasted the premiership with Graham Taylor for a year and were immedietly relegated. Board wanted more of the same so got in Gianluca Vialli who treated it more as 'jobs for the boys' than a real football club. He brought in some slightly well known names and paid them exorbinant amounts (Defender Ramon Vega was on £38,000 a week when Beckham was at Man U for £27,000)

We're still paying for that mistake now :-/ :(

we had Vega at Celtic for a while on loan from Spurs so we were probably paying half his wages at least - what a pile of ahem..."tobelerone" he was  :(

Getting back to the original point,if it was in his contract of employment that he should be paid the money he says he is owed then they should pay it to him, cant really see why anyone would say otherwise. The number of 0,s on the end of the figure doesnt alter the principle involved at all. ;)

I think the question the OP was asking, Albs, is whether he should chase them for the money, knowing this could send them under, or perhaps compromise.

If someone owed me a lot of money I would chase it.Its their fault they got themselves in a financial mess, so why let that influence your judgment ? ;)

The last time a mate asked me to do that I asked him why he needed it.He told me that his feet were wet and cold because the sole was hanging of his shoe and he couldnt afford a new pair.I reached into my pocket and pulled out a thick wad of tenners, pulled the rubber band off that was holding them together and said to him "here you go mate, put this rubber band round your shoe to hold them together until you can afford a new pair. See, Im all hart really. :y ;D ;D

Greedy 'journeyman' signed a five year deal on a promise for fornicating svens notts county and bailed out after one game when the golden goose got constipated.
A year ago he was running around Wembley with a Pompey cup winners medal kissing his shirt.
Pompey once a great club going down the tubes quick having failed in the High court to stop the taxmans winding up order.
Shameful behaviour from an overated fat has been who's got fat on the fans money.
