DaveL used to be and is now an instructor on a flying simulator at a major base.  He's not on that often these days, but might be worth a PM?

I can highly recommend the ATC, I spent 5 years in there and got to fly gliders solo, did aerobatics in chipmunks, landed a Nimrod on a flight simulator (without it sponaneously combusting) learnt how to shoot responsibly and realised I am actually a good shot.......oh and shagged loads of birds in sexy uniforms ;D ;D ;D

This one was in the local paper as we cleaned up the war memorial and surrounding area after it was trashed by local kids.

I am on the left second one from the bottom and the lady with the knees as my friend put it was my ex, now if there isn't a reason to join  :y

I was in the CCF RAF... Same thing really, although the CCF/ATC rivalry was always good fun :y :y

I also did lots of flying, including a flight in a Tuccano, the basic Jet trainer :y :y Gliding wise... Did a week "Ridge Soaring" in Scotland which included lots of solo flights :y :y

Also went on the International Air Cadet Exchange.

Oh... And I had a Flying Scholarship from the RAF... 20 hours towards a PPL :y :y

The experiences were something amazing and that coupled with my school being a Forces School (although not any more really) meant that by  the time I was 18 I had done more than some people manage in a lifetime... Highlights include: Touring Holland, Germany and Austria (3 different trips), singing at St Paul's Cathedral several times and Performing in the Royal Tournament twice :y :y

i was in the ATC a few years back... i did the gliding aswel, got my GIC1 and GIC2 scared as hell the first time as i hav a fear of heights  but once i went up, i didnt wanna come down again was great! You hav to be able to take orders and being told what to do all the time... for me my squadron commander and flight lieutenant were my next door neighbors who i really didnt get on with and so i left

mumble CCF scum mumble ;)
I did a fair amount with them, I went from cadet to staff until I could no longer afford the time.
I went to akrotiri in Cyprus, Germany, various bases in the UK and a moral leadership course where a I met a young lady without too many morals ;D
I was on my sqdn shooting team and drill team. I still hold the record for loudest drill instructor (I hit 125db)
I loved my time there and will take my kids when they reach the age of 13 to join :y

 ;D ;D ;D   nicely written P 8-) :y

In the round it does show the importance of such organisations and how young people, if properly engaged and given a purpose, can prepare themselves for leading a meaningful life - but more importantly, prove to themselves that they have worth and are capable of contributing something of use to others and to their country.

Had a camp there too and got the picture! Small world, I heard a rumour that it's not there anymore though :(

I joined 100 Sqn in 91 and left in 1996 as a Flt Sgt.  The best thing I ever did there though was the Gold D of E, got to meet 'big' Phil at St James' and had a great exped in Snowdonia.

The chicks in uniforms was an added benefit  ::) ::) ::) :y ;D
