Title: Be aware of this!
Post by: Nickbat on 26 January 2010, 22:28:04
"Drivers who 'pay and display' to park their cars are being fined if they leave earlier tickets showing on their windscreen.

Council traffic wardens are exploiting a legal loophole to penalise motorists who have paid but simply forgot to remove a previous stub from their dashboard or window.

If wardens, or parking attendants, can see more than one ticket, they can fine the motorist.

Yep, that sounds about right as we're now monitored by petty minded, half-brained, puffed-up excuses for enforcement officers who, for the most part, occupy their grubby positions as a result of being less expensive to employ than the real thing, and for their ability to generate income for this discredited money grabbing government!!

Which reminds me,I went to visit my daughter in her new flat in London just before Christmas.I wasnt completely sure of where I was going and missed my turning but realising my mistake I went around the oval shaped road at Aldgate and came back to Commercial road , which was where I should have turned.
A few days ago I recieved a £60 fine as apparently I had for all of 60 seconds inadvertantly driven about 150 yards inside the congestion zone.
I am a blue badge holder so if I wanted to go in aand out of the zone I could register to do so,if I had realised that I had driven into it I would have payed up. No doubt there are plenty of signs etc, but I was pretty stressed and trying to find my way while coping with London traffic, so I didnt think to look.
I am going to appeal, but you can only do this as far as I can ascertain by way of hand written letter.Another licence to print money. >:( :(

Old news....... ::) ::) I remember getting a parking ticket in 1978, in Darlington, left it on the screen and then parked the next day.  I thought they would look and see a ticket and leave it at that, ::) Wrong, I got another ticket, my own fault, as are most parking fines..... ::) ::) ::) :(

I think that I could use that reply (previously used) - with great justification - to cover many of the complainants we see on here, a sort of one riposte fits all sort of thing. :y

I was told the other day that the wardens in wolvo just take a photo of you and your vehicle and then send the ticket or fine direct to your address....I`d of thought this to be illegal as it could open to fraud..... :-/ :-/ :-X

Don't be so idol & leave old tickets stuck to the window. It's the first thing i do upon return to my car.
I see loads of folk driving around with old tickets stuck to their windows & it's a driving hazard.
The longer you leave the stuck the harder they are to remove too.

Serves them right if they get a fine, why should the parking attendent trawl through ten tickets to find the correct dated one :-/

Too right they should fine-as above, why should the attendant have to look through various tickets?

Old tickets look a mess, restrict vision and cause inconvenience.  As a rule of thumb, a car with a window full of tickets will probably have other "can't be arsed" issues like lights out, etc.

It is one of those rules, that *should* be interpreted by staff with a bit of sense-eg if only one other ticket on a different window, then ok, searching through 15 tickets-fine them, seize the car, crush it, then send them to the workhouse for being lazy and thoughtless, to work a treadmill to provide eco-electricity for Nickbat.  When they finally die of exhaustion, cremate the bodies to power a generator.

How do you become a traffic warden?

In Merthyr our tickets are not 'sticky' they just sit on the dashboard.
Also, I always pay for three hours and never use it up so I give it to the person who is waiting to get in my space, there is ALWAYS someone waiting.
So I am a green person cos I re-use my ticket. don't think Graham be too happy if he knew tho. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The contract is to PAY and DISPLAY...fail to do both and you can be done.

no probs for you, but if cctv checked (and they do notice) the ticket receipient can be fined  >:(

Absolutely right, and as Vamps states this is old news.

Almost as long as I have been driving I have known of the need to remove previous tickets....................especially when you are "topping up" your parking time!! :D :D

In fact you should also move your car to another space as I did recently three times over the space of six plus hours in a 2 hour limit street (as they all are) in the back streets of Paddington, London. ;) ;)

seems fair, don't quite know what the ~Daily Mail is getting it's knickers in a twist for....it's not like you're going to get hit with a fine for having 2 or 3 tickets....but then, that wouldn't be news!!! ban this sick filth!!!!!!!  ;D

ps i note, as is usually the case with the Mail that not one single council employee has actually been interviewed aside from the mysterious, unnamed "spokesperson"......do your job - you're supposedly journos - actually, if you were journos, the last place you'd work is the Mail, so fair do's, its like expecting a hard hitting expose on corruption in the Beano  :y

As already said being a valet tart i don't spend all that time cleaning my glass to stick junk to it. The ticket gets left on the dash. I used to pass tickets with time left to others but again as said you have to punch in the 3 numbers on your reg so unless anyone only has 9 on thier reg it's a no go! ::)

I think the point of the story was the fact that in certain areas this is now being enforced to the letter. The policy being to make a point of looking for an old ticket stuck somewhere on the car, and if you are lucky enough to find one dish them out a fine for failure to display or similar. There have been several cases reported recently in various papers of this type of thing happening.Obviously another revenue raiser from the soft target - evil planet wrecking, child murdering motorists. They have squeezed us but our pips arent sqeaking loud enough yet.
