It happened this day

1953 - Derek Bentley Hanged, later awarded a posthumous Pardon
1986 - Challenger Space Shuttle disintegrates.

We say happy birthday to...
Acker Bilk and Ronnie Scott, sadly Scott no longer with us.
Frank Darabont - Writer Director of the brilliant movie The Green Mile.

You may be right,. I think Frank Darabont did the screenplay, I need to check!!!
It was indeed written by Stephen King, and DIRECTED by Frank Darabont
