Title: Healthcheck.
Post by: Amigo on 27 January 2010, 19:31:29
Not my usual type of post but forced on me none the less. Had a pre op check over today for my umbilical hernia op. on wed 3rd. Despite my drinking/smoking could do with losing a few more pounds & nearly 47 i passed ecg, blood pressure, blood & urine tests with flying colours so there's life in the old dog yet.
Despite my relief i'm dreading wednesday & hav'nt forgotten those on here who have health issues or those who are no longer with us & much missed.
Initial joy lead to me thinking of some others & feeling a tad guilty...there but for the grace etc.

The procedure, I believe, is quite simple. It was the six week recovery period that put me off.
I self-treat by not lifting anything heavier than a cup of tea. :y

;) I`m sure you`ll be just fine and will get significant relief and comfort, post surgery.
Such times are sobering indeed and serve to remind us all, of how our daily good-health can be so oft` simply 'taken for granted'.

You are (and will remain) in my thoughts and prayers and here`s sending you all my best wishes for your complete and speedy recovery, Guy. :-*

Types of hernia
A hernia can occur anywhere in the abdomen region. The most common types are:

•Inguinal hernia This occurs when tissue (usually part of the intestines) pokes through your lower abdomen.
•Femoral hernia This occurs when tissue pokes through into your groin, or the top of your inner thigh.
•Incisional hernia This occurs when tissue pokes through a surgical wound or incision that has not fully healed.
•Umbilical hernia This occurs when tissue pokes through the part of the abdomen near to the navel (belly button).
There is also another common type of hernia, known as a hiatus hernia, that occurs at the top of the abdomen (go to 'useful links' for more information).

You try to help someone and get abuse like that in return. I wonder why I bother sometimes. :(

I had my inguinal hernia done about 8 years ago. I was in hospital for 8am and out by 12.30pm. They cut a 5" hole in me and stuck some plastic mesh over the hernia and sewed me up all under local anaesthetic. Being a whimp I was well cheesed off, I thought I would wake up with at all over and done with. One thing I would say is, dont go wearing jeans like I did or if you do take something baggy to wear on the way home ::)

Thanks everyone. I love you all. Well most of you...erm a few of you, actually i can't stand..Really it's a simple routine proceedure but i'm a big girls blouse where such things are concerned so you're all my collective outlet.
Thanks for the types of hernia list!!!! Mine's an umbilical which in a nutshell is the intestine trying to push through the broken stomach lining resulting in a big outie belly button...navel..naval??? Not uncommon amongst big boys!!! :y
