Can't see this having much impact.  On the one occasion I was in Dublin by car in recent years, there was nothing moving much faster than 5kph anyway.

A little over 18mph is just plain stupid.
Outside schools & through busy shopping streets it's a must, but that's all.

Morons. Glue them to the road and run over them repeatedly at 30kph. :y ::) :D

there is places where speed should be cut down and if the government are that decided that they are doing it for public safety they should have a device on the cars to slow down in these areas but oh that means they,d lose millions in fines

"roads that are engineered for high volumes "
My experience as a regular visitor to the city is that the roads area in question are anything but that

Do these cretins really think that cars are using almost half the fuel at 18mph that they are using  at 30mph ? :-/ ::)

I think this should be the law in all major city centres.. London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds etc. :y

Time and a place for evrything I say, im happy to see some housing estates with 20mph all over. No im not a kill joy but also dont want to be a child killer as i think theas are the ones this limit is ther to protect more than your drivers age people. I also think that other roads need loosning up with capt speed in uk only 70. When speed limits were put in place throughout the uk posably for oure safty thes were good speeds, but a computer then was either the size of a house or the small compact laptop equifalent size was the abacus. Now ok the biscit 12 wheels with lether brakes would take 2 junctions to stop allong the motorway but whats our stoping distance now(and im not asking for highway code quote).

In short drop the speed in some places and lift in others.

Ironicly M4 past Portalbat has less accidents now speed camera been taken away. Do`s that meen that the slowing of flowing trafic causes more accidants than speeding?

If it ever did become law, then expect the accident rate to rise sharply.

Obviously the injury factor would decrease due to the lower speed, but you'll see a lot more bodies attending A&E if we are forced to drive that slow because of the "boredom" factor.

Limits are there simply for the people who aren't capable of thinking for themselves.

There is no "magic" number that makes everything a bed of roses, you either get the job right or you don't.

Its a proces of eliminating the high speed from the high casulty risk. The magic only comes from sticking to the limits (only counts towords points) nothing is fool proof but with that said the right place right speed and death/injery number should drop.
I only been here few days and not a part of the police so my opinion is based on life and education (wish id spent more time studiing english spelling on times).
Simple maths e.g 1 ton + car versis 11stone man 30 mph = big dent prehaps new windscreen (2-3days workshop?) the poor 11stone man 1-2 weeks casulty and god only knows if he would be back to his fisicle fit self ever again.
Supose ther is another majic moving roads not wheels turing as such evrybody will move at same speed. Cant see how that would work though and wouldnt want it persnaly, but this solves human rights as i dont think speed limiters on cars and roads would pass but then neither would fags and booz in this curant day i shouldnt have thought.

It also pointed to research that 45% of pedestrians die when struck by a car at 50kph but only five per cent if hit at 30kph.

..and at 0kph no-one gets killed.  There's your answer.

does anybody on planet earth know the green cross code anymore ?
when do you draw the line between blameing the driver or turning round to the pedestrian and say ............... YOU didn't look and YOU walked out into the road when a big 2 ton piece of metal was coming !!
pavements are for people
roads are for cars ect

ps   i have kids and if i see them playing on the road, they get a bollocking or a slap

Interesting one that.  You could say a hobby-horse of mine.  When approached to clear obstructing cars our local plod decided it might annoy the other residents and dismissed it. >:(

In fact plod themselves drive and park on pavements without any bylaws permitting it. >:( >:(

Spot on  :y :y

Pedestrians think they own the road over here :-/

Very different compared to my experiance driving in London.
