We have been here before....
What someone asks for their car and what they get for it is their business and that of the purchaser. Whether a potential purchaser cares to actually view the car and reassess what their budget is or not, is again, their prerogative.
To all, by all means make observations and comparisons but ultimately, its a for sale thread not somewhere to simply diss the seller such that they decide to remove themselves from the forum...... :y
as per last time! I have 9 in stock i know my market, sold 15 in december ans 9 this month, there are ate least 4 members who i have supplied, all happy from what i can gather.
its simple come view it if in the market for one, or keep opinions off the sale thread.
[/highlight]
Surely we are entitled to our opinions? And sometimes the opinion we get are not what we want to hear, but such is life.

i reckon ya should put up some pics of your m5!! bmw mad!

Now we know why he needs £3000 for that Mig......
lol
:y :y :y :y
Nice BM by the way, normally hate them but M5s are fine by me.....!!!
-
I would hazard a guess the opinions you want keeping off the thread would be the ones that do not suit your interests.
-
that migs like brand new, and has every extra on it, a 33k car plus colour satnav and options, someone will buy it, im realy busy with them at the moment. theres none out there so why not! obv oof members get a deal as it says, so if people re read it, they can make an offer, but wheels arent nackered, just scratched in 2 places! nice when people devalue your advert with cheap comments tho!

It's still a lot of car for the money whichever way you look at it... Stick it in Auto Trader/Freeads etc and it'll sell all day at that price ;) ;)
Still a lot more than I'd pay... But not that unrealistic... ISTR Robsey's 98/99 saloon going for over £2k on egay not all that long ago :y :y
-
I dont understand all the thread crapping.
If you think someone is being downright dishonest then pipe up and say something otherwise, IMHO, people should leave these threads alone unless theres a genuine question.
All products are worth what someone will pay, thats the end of it. There does seem to be a few people on here who "say" they buy amazing cars at stupid low prices, but people can "say" anything they like on the internetz, doesnt mean its true ;)
Anyone would think from some of the comments here that Omegas arent worth a crap no matter what the age and/or condition, and we should be the ones who are championing the cars!
I dont think its a matter of being thick skinned, its just a matter of respect. If you think something is priced way out of line then maybe send a PM with a suggestion?
Sorry for the long post but these types of things really bother me, its just like selling stuff on ebay and getting insultingly low offers for things, why do people do that? Maybe they think the seller is a moron and they will get lucky? ::)
-
I bought mine from ebay, seller was local, spoke to him on the phone and all sounded genuine.
1st time the car did not reach his reserve but gave me an indication of what it was worth to the buyers.
2nd sale it went higher but still did not hit the reserve, but he accepted my offer, but agreed to wait as I was in a cash flow situation waiting for a cheque to clear.
Rather than ring me, and I wasnt bugging him as we had an agreement he paniked and put the car up for sale a 3rd time.
This time I bid and won for £300 lower than we agreed. He was popping the car over to me on my birthday (I allways treat myself to something nice) and we arranged for 1pm at my brothers as it was to stay parked there till I reinsured under multi car when my current insurance ran out a month later.
He didnt turn up till 7pm after chassing him with a few calls and getting a few promiced.
I will admit, that I thought he was pissed off and wanted out of the deal, I knew he was a roofer and worked away, he had spend the day at meadowhell, took the kids to the pictures and had a shopping spree. Thinking he was pissed off at the lower price he got after his original auction I was expecting some shite, plus I knew he was 6'10" and was physically fit.
Well how wrong was I, when the guy turned up, he was really genuine and was chuffed to bits as he knew it was going to someone who really wanted the Elite. Was it about the value of the car, well he knew what the car was like, I knew I wanted it, 3 attempts on ebay lost him his money. He took my money without any hassle whatso ever, and during the chat he showed me the watch he had just paid £1700 for which had caused a rift between him and his wife and the real reason he was delayed that after noon.
After owning the car, allthough Omega prices were plumeting due to Tax disc hikes and the cost of petrol I would still have been happy at what we originally agreed to pay, his loss my gain, his fault not mine.
It is a buyers market, but not allways is the case with the high spec cars with low mileage.
-
As has been said, no one is forcing anyone to buy. Someone willwant it for that money and if no,you'll have to come down on the price or keep hold. I quite like the colour sat nav and it is desireable but would I pay that much extra? Probably no but I suspect someone will. Good luck with the sale mate.
-
I dont think a for sale thread is the place for slagging off peoples cars and the price of them tbh.
I seem to remember people having a bit of a go at Tunnie in his thread in gen. discussion earlier today and TB posted that people with nothing constructive to add to the thread would be better not posting, imo that applies at least as much to this thread. ;) ::)
-
I agree. He's named his price, posted pics as we all do. If you were a newbie on the look out for a Miggy, surely you could do worse than go to someone who really knows them and their faults?
-
Simon is right here. He knows his market and he is shifting them so point proved.
I have no experience of buying from him but a quick look at his website and he looks fairly genuine.
If you think he is overpriced etc. then PM him and tell him or make him an offer if you are interested.
He left us once for this reason lets not push him out again :y

What a surprize the "raters & slaters have arrived again" ::)
Well I have just read all the forum guidelines but sadly could find nothing that said that opinions arent allowed......
Not slating at all....!!!!
:y
So now we have to have forum rules in to prevent members slating other member's cars.
It's all about respect for other members & their cars. If we're asked for an opinion then give it (im sure that's what the Omega Gallery is for).
The For Sale Section is just that "For Sale" & that thread should be used for asking the seller questions & the like.
I actually PMed Simon yesterday on this very subject, because i knew exactly what was gona happen.
I think it stinks that a person can't post a thread in "For Sale" without it being dribbled over by others.
If you have an ad in Auto Trader or the small ads, would you expect phone calls from strangers saying "your car's over priced, your car's this & your car's that". No & it wouldn't be very nice for the seller to receive these calls so what's the difference.
To most the seller is a stranger & just because they're on an open forum it makes it alright to bring them down, i don't think it does.
We have the banter amongst members & it's all fun, hell i have the piss taken outa me & i can give as good as i can take, but that's different.
This is about someone trying to sell their car(s) & that at the best of times isn't fun so lets try to make it a little easier for them.

I think those are very fair comments Pete and am pleased to associate myself with them. :y I feel Entwood encapsulated the matter in his comments made on that thread yesterday;
Re: Omega 3.2i V6 Elite Auto Colour Satnav 4 new tyres
Reply #3 - Yesterday at 17:47 What we think, and what the market will take, are 2 different things totally.
I'll bet that he's far more aware of the market than any of us .. it is his business after all !!!
as a matter of interest
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/VAUXHALL+OMEGA/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-4...
Looks to me like he's in the right ball park as of the 13 found, none quite match what he's offering .. but interpolation makes it a "reasonable" ask, given the rarity of 3.2 anyway...
If it's worth it, someone will pay it ... if it's not they won't .. simple ..
supply and demand IMHO
Measured and full of good sense. 8-)

You guys sticking up for the motor trade either have a vested interest or are being naive.
I would like to see omega prices strengthen but at the same time i definitely do not want to see someone having their trousers taken down.
I have experience of the motor trade, its a simple task to justify a price tag, this forum is about sharing experience and pitfalls with the omega and anyone selling theirs ought to expect to put prospective customers minds at ease. Yes buyer beware but an omega for sale on this forum should be able to run the gauntlet.

You've not been around long enough to know that it's not just the traders that get their cars slated ;)
Many others have also had this experience :(

And I am sure they would do that. However a number of the people who were commenting had no intention of buying and just wanted to make comment on the price.
As Pete says it happens on a lot of the for sale adverts and not just ones from the traders. ::)

Well said and I also add that no other forum I frequent says you cant comment on cars for sale.....
They get their ads on here for free (like we all do) so why shouldnt people be allowed to share opinions......
I also note that on none of the threads in mind here has ANYBODY commented how competitively priced the vehicles are, so I think our points are totally valid.....
:)
-
I have been involved in the trade in the past, but the simple rply is this.
A trader offers a car at a price, if a seller wants it he buys it, haggles it or walks away from it.
Simple as.
I want a low mileage Elite Auto Estate 03 or later with 50k on the clock or less, in Silver or nocerno blue, oh and colour sat nav, leather and all the toys.
Motortrade or not, I aint gonna get that for sub £1000 unless I see someone coming with a white stick and trip him up with it and then kick him whilst he's down.
Yes both side's have to be realistic, but come on, ....... if it's too exspensive then it wont sell. end off.

I agree Skruntie, but I resent being told I am not allowed to comment, I think that is ridiculous and beyond draconian
:y
-
I think it can be difficult sometimes to come across positively yet give accurate feedback. The black 3.2 I've just sold went for £1800, it was advertised at £1995 publically, and within four days it was sold once it had been advertised on other places than OOF. I know the value of the vehicles I sell, and hope to most they do represent good value.
I always welcome feedback, but as of yet I don't think in any of my for sale threads I've had any negative comments.
I don't know what difference there is between Simon's sales and mine?
-

I dont think it's a case of not to comment.
I think it's at times the way in which people make a comment. Making comment is no big deal, it's the way the whole thread then deteriorates with a negative trend. Then it becomes 2 sided and then gets out of control.
I cant (Myself) see the point in "Slating" a car for sale or the buyer for trying to sell. As often said, it will sell or it wont. Look at the scorpio from that mag that was for sale the other week, I would'nt give £100 for it, but then a ford fan might not give a tenner for a mint Elite.
The sale or nosale will solve the arguement. same arguement can be put to most things in life. But at the end of the day, thats what general discussion is for, and hence this thread in now here. By all means start them in here, but not the sales thread. Think about it.
-
I don't know what difference there is between Simon's sales and mine?
Market knowledge and price are both in your favour Josh, and you do more on here than just use it as a free advertising outlet......
If his cars are overpriced for what they are, in some peoples opinion, why arent we allowed to comment so.......??
:) :y

We (I am not the only person commenting) have been asked by the seller not to comment on his thread......

Don't worry mate I won't say a word....

I think the difference is Josh, yours was younger, with 100,000 miles less and alot cheaper, ok it wasn't an Elite but so what. I really don't mind people making a few quid on a deal, I do it myself thats what makes the world go round but I don't like people being taken for a ride. I think your prices are reasonable, the buyer gets a good deal and you get to pay your bills ;)
-
Lets have a wee grip of reality around here before things go pear shaped once again.... ::)
If you are interested in buying a car advertised on OOF then, by all means, post up relevant questions and queries which undoubtedly a seller worth their salt will readily reply to.
If you wish to comment on a car - make it a discussion piece and/or you have no interest in purchasing simply because you think the price is ourageous/colour scheme is heavily amusing/body mods are perhaps worth sharing with others/simply feel the need to say yours was cheaper than the one for sale - then consider the following....
If you saw the car on Pistonheads, Autotrader, E-bay, Barryboys, your local rag, car showroom or whatever and you wanted to pass an opinion to share on OOF, what would you do? You would put a post into the General Discussion area or Gen Car Chat..... :y
Same line of thought applies with cars advertised for sale on OOF. If you want to rip it, do it in the appropriate area - not the sellers thread!! Its manners! Go start a thread in general discussion area or gen car chat and see what develops thereafter.....
Hopefully that clarifies things a tad.... :y
edit for smelling pistooks and grandmar

I cannot agree hotel21,none of the other advertising outlets are an owners forum,if anything trade adverts for cars should be banned unless they mention all known prevalent omega failures and whether they have been rectified or are warranted.

In that case, we are agreeing to disagree. Pistonheads and Barryboys are but two of the online based fora that regularly get quoted on here and are but examples. If you wish to comment on a sales thread, see my post above otherwise, please refrain from posting.... :y

Well i am stuck between a rock and a hard place because i find both yours and Simon Omega 2`s attitude unpleasant to the point of personally insulting but surely i am in the right section to say this.
Always more than happy to agree to disagree

Sorry, just reread my comment above and it could have easily been misconstued. Was not suggesting that you stop posting per se, but to ensure that if posting on a sales thread that there is a genuine interest in the vehicle whilst using genchat to partake of comments in general about it, leaving the sales thread for interested buyers. :y

Fully understood,cheers.
When i come to sell my car,if possible, i would like these conditions totally relaxed,an open invitation put out to all raters and slaters to get stuck in and let battle commence.
I pride myself on buying at retail, making them mint and selling at trade!

there have been loads of car for sale threads go by un-noticed, and without any comments except to find out more details. When something is a-miss, and not right, people speak up. Granted its in the wrong section, should post in general chat.
You can get away with inflated prices on AT, but not OOF, we know what they are really worth, and more important, we know what we would all pay.

Sorry, I'm with Hotel21 on this one - all the pointless bickering on a selling thread means that interested buyers and sellers cannot discuss the car.
Actually, thats a lie, I actually disagree with Hotel21. If I had my way, I'd have the cars for sale section closed, due to the amount of my time and effort to moderate. But Hotel21 thinks it should stay, and believes we can all act like grown-ups.
