Title: Digital camera help
Post by: mantahatch on 01 February 2010, 17:11:07
I am not very good with photography at the best of times and I have just been given a "faulty" Kodak easyshare C743 digital camera.
It works very well with new batteries in it, but if you leave the batteries in they will go flat very very quickly even though it is turned off. We are talking about standard AA batteries fresh from the packet, not rechargeable type.

Would anyone have any ideas, or no of reasonable camera forum I can try.

Thank You

Something is obviously still drawing current if it's killing the batteries when switched off.

It's a 3 year old camera that was £112 new, so it's not really worth considering spending money to get it fixed - especially as you can buy camera's with far better spec for less than £70 new.

Agreed. It's either got a leaky internal component or the internal firmware has gone doolally and it is not powering down properly. See if there's a way to reset it to factory defaults just in case. If that doesn't work, not worth fixing, IMHO.

Yo can't even attempt a repair yourself on a device like this as dismantling them is usually a one-way street IME. ;D

If you're happy with it and it was free, just remove the batteries when you've finished using it. Not a huge inconvenience.

Thanks chaps, I am happy with it, it is not something I would buy myself anyway. So yes I think I will just pull the batteries.

Try Lithium batteries they last a lot longer than standard batteries and were developed for digital cameras  :y :y :y :y :y
