Below is what I just received from my accountant

Hi Diane,
Jeanne tried to make this happen over the phone.  She was on the phone with the bank for over ½ hour only to discover that she has to do this in person.  She has a full schedule the rest of today and all of tomorrow so she will be stopping at the bank on her way to the office Wednesday morning.  Unfortunately the bank we use is not right around the corner.  I will let you know when it has been sent.

Yup that is taking the pi$$ most bank these days can do the payment over the phone as long as they have relevant security clearance.
I can even recite the wording the have to give as I make far too many of them in a day.

btw from the US the payment should be in your bank within 4 days at the most 6
