I'm fixing my oil leak and hopefully the coolant leak too if I can find it, but my parents say I should sell the car when fixed.
Of course I don't want to sell it but they say at 123000 miles it is 'past it'. I've tried saying that the engines last much longer than that with proper servicing and maintenance but they say that it's only going to get more expensive even when I do fix the leaks. They are of the opinion it is not worth keeping.
I can't tell them to .. off because they have helped financially with some bits recently, but I just don't know what to say to get them to understand. I don't want to sell the car and I enjoy working on it.
They also say that with a baby due soon I won't have time to mess around with the car, but that's not a problem because I have my wife's car while I'm doing the work on mine.
How can I talk them round to my (our?) way of thinking that it's not a depressing and expensive downward spiral from here?

Tell them its worthless so theres no point selling it :y
Also tell them it is far better for the planet and your pocket to run and preserve an older motor.

Remind them that god forbid you are all involved in an RTA at least you are in a big tough motor with airbags everywhere.
Also that you are grateful for thier help so far so why sell for a low price, buy another car they approve of & start again with repairs which will cost more in the long run.
Best of luck, Guy. ::)
