Changed the oil, the old stuff was horrible. Very dark black and sludgy. I think the sump plug may be stripped though >:(. Oil is just as dark now, and has done precisely 0 miles >:(
Given the coolant a few flushes with water, then with 50:50 red.
Spent ages trying to fix the coolant sensor, but I think its fubar, so may need a new one. I have a spare petrol one, so I'll see if I can block off the extra pipe.
Fixed a problem with passenger reading light.
Still quite a few bits to do...

What's ultimately the problem with it? what failed?

Take some of the stuff from the tank in the back and put it in with the oil. Run for 5-10 mins and change again.

I'm not a fan of flushing with diesel (or any other flushing agent)
bear in mind diesel oil gets black VERY quickly.... which is normal...

Not entirely sure yet, I think I know whats happened, but need to confirm....
If you do pop over this way for any reason (I'm not about tomorrow), can you bring those a/c dust caps, and the coolant cap, and cdl motor if out.
I could also do with the interior light if its going spare ::)

Although, many of the elite components, etc will all be cleaned with diesel (simply because I have a can of it that I have no use for!!).. and I do find it a good cleaning agent for some things..

Come on.. spit it out ;D

I hadn't even turned the engine over, so I think it needs regular flushing... ....not sure what to do about sump plug...

.
Guess you've shoved vx semi in it.....which i dont see a prob with....my merc has been getting that for 10's of thousands and didnt complain about it
Thats a thing with diesels....oil does go dark/black very quickly.....but not quite as quick as that! :o
A flush may help if its that bad to help get the sludge out.

A problem shared, is a problem halved :)

I could always use my new found thread tapping skills on your sump ::)

Are your drilling skills up to doing EM studs in situ? ;) :)
-
Skills.. probably.... tools...no
Why do it in situ.. have you got snapped studs for sure?

No, leaking but hoping studs won't break.
I've done studs in the car once and it was a complete nightmare! And that was an inline engine! My worry is that the studs will break if I try to take the manifolds off to do the gaskets, and then it is heads off 5K after doing the cambelt and cam cover gaskets. :-/ >:(

I'd start giving the head bolts a good squirt of plus gas every so often. Hopefully they'll have freed off by the time you come to do the manifolds.

yep plus gas : hard to find but excellent penetrating fluid :y

Gotcha. I'll start drenching it.
Any advice on doing it when really hot after a thrash? Would that help shock them loose? Probably should only do that when ready to do the gaskets.
-
They are soooo much more accessible with the heads off.

Yeah, although dropping the engine out is the other choice . . . :-/
-
I would spray them when they're cold. The fluid will just evaporate off rather than penetrate if they're hot.

That's the stuff. Also available in aerosol cans. Whatever's more convenient.
