Mrs Nickbat's off to visit her folks next week, and taking the kids with her, leaving me to do all those pesky little DIY jobs that have been piling up over the winter. The pads on her 53 reg Corsa 1.2 are shot and it needs a service, so cunningly, I think I'll replace the pads before it gets booked into the local Vauxhall dealer upon her return. It's out of warranty now.
Two questions:
1. What pads are recommended? (GM, Ferodo, Halfords, etc.) Thinking both cost and safety here.
2. Any reason to think it will be less straightforward than replacing the pads on the Omega? (oh, yes, I think they need doing to ::))

Front pads on the Corsa are a doddle. For what they cost original VX ones are good value, about £15 IIRC. 10 minute job per side. Rear shoes are an easy job too, but the springs are worth noting which goes where!

I find Vx pads are no more expensive and good enough for the job.
Should be easy, wheels are smaller and lighter to remove and there won't be any wear sensors to break. :y

Thanks guys, I'll pick up the pads from Vx. Need to go there anyway to pick up (yet another) NSF wheel trim. On our third now in just 12 months. :(

... you could always buy some cable ties, tie the trims on and leave a set of cutters in the glovebox for removal time? Worked for me on the old company car ...

Wheel trims yes..... £18 each!
I agree with the cable ties - but around the wheel trims, use them to strangle th sodding parts counter bloke that charges you a small fortune for 1 trim, when a box of numpty happy-shopper type ones is only £10!

Yep, I'll get the cable ties.
Wierd thing is that the wheel makes quite a grinding noise when a trim is put on and disappears when it is taken off. It stumped the guy at the tyre place last week. Shook his head and said I'd better take it to Vx. Methinks the grinding noise and the loss of trims are connected. Strange, though.
