Title: £6m to stop the expenses fiddles
Post by: Nickbat on 11 February 2010, 17:40:15
OK, so the rotten troughers cost us a fair bit and they got what they deserved, but do we really need to spend £6m on a quango to make sure they do things right in the future?

Always the answer to everything among the political classes: set up a quango and spend some more money on non-jobs.

Worthwhile manufacturing jobs? Nah. Let's have more "Assistant Manager Corporate Performance" jobs.  ::)

Lucky I'm going out or I'd get really cross.  ;)

Hang on, do we want to keep a riegn on the fookas or not?  If you're happy that continue to squander then fine but I for one dont mind keeping an eye on these pesky sh!ts.  Remember that setting up always costs a lot and I bet that more will be saved in the long run than it costs.

How many millions does it cost to house the convicted criminals in this country ?
£6 Million to monitor the 600 odd high risk ones  seems a bargain (as we are not allowed to execute the scum)

I agree that they need an eye kept on them, not just financially. However, there are, IIRC, 650 ish MPs.

How many companies of 650 employees spend 6 million running their finance and admin departments?

Ok. Maybe that's unfair, because MPs expenses might be more complex than the average employee, but surely that's what they need? Just what we have in the private sector. An admin department run with an iron fist by an old battleaxe and a few jobsworth assistants who won't sign an expenses claim unless it's correct to the penny.

Having had a look at the setup there seems to be a lot of IT being employed in this department.  That might account for some of the cost this financial year.  I would expect that burden to descrease in subsequent years.
