Title: My 3.2 Elite
Post by: alunonhisown on 13 February 2010, 16:34:03
Firstly, I would like to apologise to Josh for letting him down on the car, but for reasons I have explained to him I needed a car for Monday.
This car is not perfect, by far.
1st of all, I was driving down the M4 last night, and I know it was cold but the temperature guage was almost flatlined, should it not have been at 90 or something.
I also think that it needs a visit to WIM and Sethsmate has offered to let me go with him next week but I sadly  will be in France.
I have tried in vain to open the bonnet, we opened it last night on the services as the water bottle for screenwash was empty, but it took ages to open, and now when I get in tells me water bottle is empty but cannot open the bonnet.
It needs a few tyres, but that is life.
MOT due in 3 weeks, not really worried about that.
I need a good leather treatment, any ideas.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
D.
P.S I also only have 1 key and that looks knackered, what do I need to obtain another? I do have the car pass.

Gliptone for leather treatment  :y

Also, buy one of their leather scented air freshners whilst you are shopping with them

Needs a new thermostat if the temp gauge barely rises (it'll also be using a lot of fuel).

To open the bonnet get someone to bounce it while you pull the bonnet catch. When open then adjust the cable under the L/H cover.

Get it to WIM to have the geometry sorted (probably need wishbones) and have the tyres fitted by them otherwise you'll just be scrubbing the new ones every wheel turn.

Facelifts should run at 85-90 on the dash, even in this cold spell. Most likey stat is jammed, needs replacing, not expensive. But a pig of a job  :(

Get the tyres from WIM too, they will transform the handling and know how to set it up right

Get someone to sit / push down on the nose of the bonnet, then pull the lever, that should do the trick. Then adjust as per guide.

Supermarkets and other places do leather food for seats, worth posting pics, and sometimes they can be beyond repair.

Get a blank blade and fob off eBay, get the key cut to yours, then take the car, keys, and car pass to one of our admins with tech2, be either TheBoy in Brackley or Kevin Wood in Alton  :y

Used Gliptone on all the cars i've had with leather seats and it does a good job but I think any leather seats manufactured after something like 2000 are sealed so the so called 'leather feeder' has no effect at all.

For personal reasons I am NOT going to disclose on a public forum, tho I have explained to Mr Wyatt, I could not wait until tuesday. I have to be in France and I needed a car to get there. I am so sorry I let Mr Wyatt down, I truly am, and I feel bad about it, please do not make me feel any worse than I already do. The last thing I need is a public slating about something that is so close to my heart.
I have spoken to a couple of members on here about the repairs, but I am time limited as I am getting a late train to France Monday.

Strange that, I have been to A&A tyres many many times.
Will call them early, need to see if I can get it MOT'd tomorrow, but that is not urgent

if temp needle is not moving, and its not getting up to temp, i would not take it to France. Its going to run too cool for a long time, which is not going to do the the engine or cats any good  :-/

The temp gauge goes up to about 80-90 when idle but when I was driving back from Reading it was almost flatlined.

added to that your bonnet needs adjusting too as you cannot open it, your asking for trouble taking a 1,000 mile round trip!

Poor Josh, whenever i'm selling a car its first come first served unless there's a non refundable deposit paid and a date when the outstanding balance is due, i've learnt my lesson :(

Feel Free to have a dig.
Even though I asked you all not to.
Seems I was in the wrong.
I have already appologised but that does not matter and peeps do not give a jot to personal circumstances
Do you think for one minute I am not feeling sorry for Josh, especially as this car I got seems a box of bombs.
Make me feel even worse than I already do

What all of you do not know is I begged Josh to let me come and collect the car, I begged him all day Thursday and Friday, and he was not able to as he had prior engagements.
He is a busy chap, and I respect that. But I practically begged him and he was not available
What more can I say

Di... Whatever the circumstances there is (apparently) no ill feeling on Josh's part and other people are just expressing an opinion on the fact that he held the car for a long time. Don't worry about it :y :y

As for the car you have bought... I think it sounds like you've made a mistake rushing into buying it, but that's my opinion ;) ;)

If you've done all that you say (you wouldn't lie in public) then you've done the right thing. You haven't let anyone down.
I do feel as though you've rushed into buying an Omega without much thought towards that particular car :-/ :-/
I hope you're happy with your Omega, it gives you many years of trouble free service & welcome to Omega ownership :y :y

Tell us a bit more about what you bought,e.g. miles, colour, service history etc.,the problems you have mentioned can be rectified but dont be tempted to throw good money after bad. i would have it mot`d asap and make a decision whether to spend money on it then.Good luck anyway.

Sad to read that you let Josh down after all the really enthusiastic postings you did lately about the money coming finally and how nice Josh's Omega was......

If it was me i would have used some of the money to rent a car to go france in then get the good Omega off Josh upon returning.....

Did you open the bonnet before buying the car to check general fluid levels, condition of oil, look for leaks etc.....??

Seems like a right rush job to me, and I hope it doesnt turn into a nightmare....

Seems a waste to rush into buying what seems like a bit of a problem car

Hope it all works out, and at least you're in the right place to get all your new cars problems sorted out.........!!

I have been slated here all day and enough is enough.
I never let Josh down, I did my best, like I said earlier in a posting, I BEGGED HIM and I mean BEGGED him to help me out, sadly he could not, not until tuesday.
Keep nasty remarks to yourself, if you think I let Josh down think again. If anything Josh let me down. I undertand he has a business to run and run it must, but I would have gone to Oxford at 10 at night if it mean I could have had the Omega off him, but it was a flat no he could not do anything until tuesday.
So please, I am very sensitive and I am hurting over this, put yourselves in my shoes. Sethsmate knows the truth why I have to be in France and I believe I do not have to say on here why, and I am not going to.
So please, enough said before this gets really out of hand.

Diane,

If you made assurances towards him that you were buying a car and then pulled out after he had held it in good faith for you, then I am sorry but you have let him down.

Fingers crossed anyway and shes in the right place to get it sorted

I pm'med Josh many times during the long wait for the cash to coem through. I asked, no told him, this situation is getting prolonged and if he has a buyer to sell it. I told him that on at least two occasions. When the money arrived on thursday I called him and he said he could not get it to me or even I could not collect it before tuesday. So I believe I did not let him down.
You are all making a fuss and the man concerned has not made a single pip about me letting him down. So why are others getting involved. I knew this was going to happen. Just ask SETHSMATE when he comes online.

As always, there are two sides to a story.  Thus far, I read only one (but have been speed reading to catch up on posts   :-[ ....) so may be best to leave it for a while, pending t'other sides comments, should they be wanted.  Even then, its their business....   :y

Right everyone, let's put this little baby to bed eh - and let's do it right now.
What's happened has happened - end of.

It's time to show our Diane what we OOFers are all about - we truly help one another, especially when one of us is in real need.

Di's had some pretty rough times of recent, but there's now a bright light at the end of a very long tunnel. Things can only get better for she and her family from now on, and, positively, I insist that we should be posting her some supportive missives. I've been privy to a sad story here, and this is where we valley folk come into our own - moving mountains, literally. Let's follow with some similar OOF treatment.

The very fact that she's confided her tale to this scribe is valued, so I'll not divulge such. Don't even ask.

Let's not dwell on her (perhaps impulsive) purchase, (at the expense of Josh's car), and instead, let's get our heads around  her car and show some good ol' OOF spirit. I'm sure that the good lady will provide the very best valleys hospitality, and being a 'boyo' myself, I'll confirm that there is indeed a welcome in these hillsides!

Although I'm a 'tractor man' my name's first on the list.

Agreed, and there is, quite literally, "jobs for the boyo's" here to be done......!!!!

As I've said in my other post... I'm just not close enough to do anything so late in the saga :( :( :(

If the car is the one which was advertised in Essex, and we had arranged it properly, I could have helped out before she took it home :( :(

Anyway... Someone must be able to help, even if Di has to travel :-?

Right, constructively, let's get the Mig fit for the trek to France.

Bobby Staple's your man here, and he's a trusted and long-standing friend of ourselves.
He's the proprietor of Aberdare Motor Repairs on 01685 878604, and mention my (proper) name. They're right by the railway station, are a long-established family concern, and have a good reputation with VOSA. Although they don't do MoT's themselves, they will arrange such after preparation in their own workshops.

Bobby'll give you a frank report on the car's condition, will not rob you, and will advise you accordingly.
Just indicate your requirements, and leave the rest to him.

Let's see what develops from here ......

I will get such items on way back though.

Sounds to me like there's not too much to be done, TBH. Duff thermostat is not ideal but I wouldn't say it's critical to fix that beforehand. Better to travel with it overcooling than rush that job.

Drive it with the climate on ECO mode and perhaps blank half  of the radiator off, keep an eye on the gauge and it'll be fine.

Adjusting the bonnet catch and tyres and checking the alignment would be a good plan, though. Can't see that taking too long.

His car is LPG, and I was going on Shuttle, so I could not take his car. Then I decided to take the ferry, and I remembered last time I was aboard a fl;oating vessel I ended up in sick bay for 3 hours, so that was out so I had to rebook shuttle today, in fact, eurostar called me today to see if I still wanted the £15 return offer so I jumped at it
