Nightmare!! My day started with that poxy popup and no matter what BSOD shut me down every 10 minutes.
So, I decided I had to go to Cardiff (DVLA) to put a cherished transfer on my Peachy. So I dropped fe^^ed PC off to Land Of Computers, told them I am nipping over to Llanishen to do the job on Peach's new ID, said I would be back within the hour, got to DVLA, surprise surprise no-one in there, in and out in 10 minutes, goes back to Peachy and gets my purse out to go back to LOC, and wow, no money, no card, shit, need to drive all way back to Merthyr to get money, and I have an appointment with Job advisor in Jobcentre at 4, so I sttay for appointment, here it gets really good, they give me a job interview in Caerphilly for tomorrow, I try everyway known to womankind to get out, even said I got no tidy clothes to go for interview, girl says OK, wait there, she is gone 10 minutes and tells me to go to Evans on Retail Park with this A4 piece of paper and they will give you clothes of your choice upto £150. COOL AS F**K. So off I go to get Number plates fitted, still no ££££, But I know the guy and I will drop it down tomorrow. Gets to Evans and have £150 worth of clothes I don't need, but Gordon Brown paid so I am happy, then back to Cardiff for PC, all done when I get there and Avast or summat installed for Free, and he gives me a pack of cd's (blanks) and only charges me £30 for wiping PC and re-installing Windows.
So it started a NIGHTMARE, and ended a LOVELY day, 2 good days on the trot, what is going to happen tomorrow when I go to France? Leaving Merthyr @ 1215am and getting 0620 Shuttle in Peachy.
Fingers crossed for third day lucky.

Err... actually Di Gordon Brown didn't, we ALL did! :-?

Oi, I have worked since I was 17, always paid my tax and insurance and always on time. I find my self unemployed through no fault of my own, I never asked for the items, did not even know I was entitled to them, they were offered as I made an excuse to get out of the job interview backfired. I will go to the interview, but it matters none because I was offered a post yesterday as Head Cook in a mental institute and accepted. Just gotta wait for CRB to come back. So I never begged these items, they were offered to me. Why should I not take them?

You shouldn't have taken the vouchers, because you don't need them.

People seem to forget that these things are supposed to be there for those that need them.  Does it not sit slightly uncomfortably that it's money that perhaps should have gone to someone who DID need the help?

Just a thought....

I tried to get out of a job interview by saying I got no clothes (decent) for such an interview, If I had point blank refused to go they would have stopped what little benefits I do get. I thought I was thinking on my feet. I could not go and say after I lied about not having decent clothes, that after all I have, I would have looked a right pratt.

no such time as 1215am .. :)

its either 00:15 am  or 00:15 pm  or  00:15 or 12:15

The use of am/pm signifies use of the 12 hour clock

no suffix letters indicates use of the 24 hour clock

Military head off .. :)

Di, you were attending that interview anyway, regardless of any excuse. It would have been to your credit if, when the lady offered the clothing voucher you had simply thanked her but politely refused. Instead you shamelessly 'played the system' and actually crowed about it here! This is a Public Forum & every member will have His or Her own morals, and ultimately make up their own mind as to the rights & wrongs, but to my mind you have put yourself in the firing line and might, just might, learn a lesson from 'thinking on your feet' in future. :(

If you read the post earlier, I have already accepted a post as Head Cook in a Mental Institute. If I had told them I had accepted a post they would stop my benefits immediatley, and I have to wait for my CRB to come back and that takes upto 6 weeks. And you are entitled to have upto £12k in your bank and claim benefits, and having bought a car it takes it way under the £12k

Di, you have shown absolutely no contrition at all for an action that any right thinking person would identify as theft, pure & simple. Because it goes on all the time doesn't make it 'F****** C**l' either! If you have any shame at all , you will return the £150 in cash to the relevant Government Department and perhaps either donate the clothes you 'don't want, don't need' to a good cause, or else put them on e-b** & donate the proceeds? Nuf said!!! >:(

I been continuosly employed for 30 years, and I lose my job for no fault of my own, and I know nothing about state handouts, like when I initially signed on I waited 37 days for a payment, and then I only got £60 in a CRISIS LOAN and I had to pay that back. So I am being honest.

What's wrong with keeping your options open.

The interview could have lead to a better job, with better prospects.

Lets faceit Diane could have choosen to post and not say a word about ther day.

13K cheque, lets see, Approx 3Kspent on a car, then a tripto france, topped up on food, was probably using an overdraught.

Short memeries here at times, not somany days ago Di could not even afford a tenner to buy a charger for alaptop on Ebay.

Di ...

You have your views and opinions.. to which you are certainly entitled ...

Others have theirs .. to which they are also entitled.. and they don't have to agree with you or explain themselves.

From recent "happenings" you obviously act on the "spur of the moment" and don't always listen to advice given .... that is also your choice .. no doubts about it ...

However .... you have shown a strong propensity to keep digging even when the hole is getting very deep ... this may not win you much support, and will probably have the opposite effect.

You may have had a tough time recently ... but you have openly bragged about the money coming in ... openly ignored advice on purchase of a car ... desperately cried for help regarding that car (now getting the work done for nowt) .. and then you brag about a job you don't want and £150 worth of free clothes  !!!

There are many on the forum far worse off than you ... you don't HAVE to rub their noses in it.

Sorry to be blunt, but I feel it needs saying to "clear the air" ..

13K cheque, lets see, Approx 3Kspent on a car, then a tripto france, topped up on food, was probably using an overdraught.

Short memeries here at times, not somany days ago Di could not even afford a tenner to buy a charger for alaptop on Ebay.
Give the girl abit of leeway.
And I did buy it and was delivered TODAY.

Do you think I would let James come all the way from Cheltenham and do two days work for free, if so you are totally pissed.
Did he look my car over last night and post on here yes he did, but I covered his expenses, even though he did not want a penny. But he did it and I would/could not let him do it for free, the same as if Loo Knee of Elite Pete had come down, they would have been paid all the same.

The benefits system should be there to provide money for food, heat, basic accomodation etc for those who would otherwise starve, freeze, be homeless etc through no fault of their own.
The system which provides more than this is wrong and is thieving from its taxpayers in order to assist social engineering and/or buy votes.
The individuals who will accept the payments this system will  give them are equally wrong imo and I dont see how they can have any genuine pride or dignity.Particularily people who have recently recieved quite a large amount of money and iirc are very soon about to recieve another large amount.
This money could be put to proper use helping the genuinely needy, or (even more unlikely)left in the wage packets of those who work to keep themselves.Just my tuppence worth etc.

I think the answer to this is, if you thought you could get away with it, yes.

There was alot of talk on the forum about the car you had bought causing you problems and you needing it to go to France blah blah blah and being honest I really didn't want to do the job but after a few kind words (im a big softy) from other members I had a chat with my wife about loaning my daughters car for the day so the wife could get to work and I agreed to come down and do the job. Now I explained that because you wanted the work doing on the Tuesday (this was Sunday night) that I would have to get genuine Vauxhall parts. The price I quoted was £650 and that was for cambelt kit, water pump, auxiliary belt and tensioner, oil and oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, 6 x spark plugs, 5 litres of Vauxhall long life antifreeze and replacement bulbs for the dash and fuel for the 360 mile round trip.  After spending Monday morning trying to get all the parts together on Monday so I could leave at 6am Tuesday, and arranging to pick my daughters car up, I told you the price to which you replied you couldn't afford it. Now I don't know your circumstances but I now know the Government pays you benefits and probably your council tax and rent/mortgage and you have £13000 sat in your account, seems to me that you are the sort of person that would like something for nothing.

I usually avoid this sort of thread, especially when there is personal abuse flying around.  But when it comes to benefits, I feel that you should take absolutely everything you can get, regardless of whether or not you are currently in need of it.  You spend your working life paying for these benefits, and then you have to fight to get them paid to you.

You may or may not approve of untested benefits which are paid out on the basis of contributions rather than need.  But they are there for everyone, and if, for your own altruistic reasons, you decline to avail yourself of the benefit, you are effectively subsidising the Treasury.  They will NOT be giving the money you gave them to the needy.  They will be buying carbon offsets or donating to bankers bonuses.

I'm living entirely on my wife's earnings since I lost my job 18 months ago.  The contributions-based job-seekers allowance stops after 6 months, and there aren't any other benefits available to me as everything else is means tested and my wife earns just about enough to ensure that I'm not eligible for any other benefit.  So we're not destitute by a long way, but we've  got a mortgage we took out when we had a joint income of roughly twice what we have now, and we're faced with having to sell the family home because the benefits system to which we have contributed for most of our adult lives won't help us at all.

If anyone offered me £150 for clothes, I''d grab it with both hands and be off to the shops like a shot.

No new clothes, no spare money cos what I sold my house in florida for the US government kept 10% of final selling fee, and that is why I got the tax refund.
But never mind, a lot more peeps are happy now.

I'm in the same situation as you but there's a slight difference. I didn't get any benefits because I haven't paid enough national insurance so I got off my arse and put what little talent I have to use. I might only earn enough to pay the bills but atleast I can say I do it legally. I love benefit cheats because they keep my wife employed, without them we may have lost our house but then again I probably wouldn't have let that happen. Where's theres a will there's a way as they say.

I had them, you have to go to the Store, in my case they told me they use Evans, 1st you go to the store and choose your clothes, then you go back to DWP and they give you a voucher of some sort, and then off back to the store, I chose the clothes, collected the vouchers and after all the cafuffle on here I went back to DWP and handed green voucher back.
Woman there looked at me, I signed for them as being handed back, and got strangest look!!! Did not say why, just walked away.

I am confused too, as it definately stated in the opening post that she had £150 of clothes that she didnt need, so "thank you Gordon Brown" or words to that effect....

Cant be bothered to go over it all again anyway and she has already apologised.

I think alot of people have been surprised and disappointed in equal measure at the particular members confusing and conflicting postings.....

I gathered, finally, that the 13k was something to do with the selling of the Florida house...which begs the question.

Why on earth did you leave Florida to come back to this old dump of a country ???

Me too webby, but for a slightly different reason. In her 1st. post, Diane said she had been to Evans & now had £150 worth of clothes she didn't need? Today she says she has returned the voucher! Call me thick if you like but I either am bloody stupid or she is now telling us untruths. How can you hand in a Government voucher in return for goods, and then return said voucher unused? Answer: You CAN'T. You also can't return the clothes to the store & ask for the voucher back, I phoned my local Jobcentre Plus Office this morning to check!  >:(

I think the money she has had in benefits is hers - 30 years tax paying is a hell of a lot of tax

Paying tax isnt a savings scheme which is later repaid in benefits. Its money paid to the exchequer to (supossedly) run the country. We have had taxes since God was a boy, but benefits were a 20th century creation. ;)
