Is this yet another invasion of our privacy?
Guido Fawkes thinks so, and I'm inclined to agree:
"ID cards may have gone off the agenda but now the Tories reportedly plan to have a financial Big Brother sitting in your bank account, automatically deducting taxes as funds arrive from your employer. They are selling it as a way to reduce the red tape burden on small businesses…"

More erosion of civil liberty?
Not that it is a role model (cos it aint), but in Spain all the utilities, local council and taxman etc can take money they believe is owed to them out of your bank account. you can't have "secret" accounts as every one you open is linked to your ID card number (bit like your Nat Ins no). If there isn't enough money then they put an embargo on your account - meaning you cannot withdraw ANY money. And they wonder why the Spanish keep their money under the bed.

I agree that they will shaft us but I would be very surprised if they shaft us quite as badly as Liebore have since 1997.
I think that Peter Hitchens constant referral to them as "the useless Tories" is a pretty fair description. ;)

blame the yanks for the recession Albs, being involved around financial services we saw it coming long before it hit, long before the spin bs and blame stories arrived.

Thats certainly where it originated and some of the British banks got themselves in too deep in the toxic debt fiasco, but Brown and his brainchild the FSA are truely up to their necks in this mess and made it a whole lot worse than it should have been, but we are covering old ground here, I have said too much about it too many times I think.
I also have a bit of close personal insight into the financial sector and the one thing I am sure of is that the story is very different to the one portrayed by the media and politicians. No big surprise there then. ::) ;)
