Whilst Safari is a reasonable browser on its own turf (Mac world), it is dangerous (with default settings) on Windows, and should be avoided.

ive just downloaded a fix it from microsoft, this is what happened when i tried to remove.

Known issue You might receive the following message when you run this Fix it:

A Service Pack or Windows Update is blocking the "Fix it" from uninstalling Internet Explorer 8.

This occurs if Internet Explorer 8 is set as not removable. This can occur if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8. For more information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
950719  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950719/ ) You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8 after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3

am i stuck with it now.??

For all the big browsers, they are all rock solid to be honest.  The big killers with the big popular 2 are the poor quality of the 3rd party add-ons that get installed as time goes by.

Its fair to say, particularly with XP, if your browser has gone unstable, its probably due for a rebuild.

RichieRich - whats wrong with IE8 that makes you want to revert to IE7?

IE8 is a more secure browser than IE7, and for that reason alone, I would consider using IE7 day to day on my PCs?

Was this a rebuild, or you just slapped sp3/ie8 on?

On windows 7 you can disable it as a windows element, on previous versions it is very difficult if not impossible  :-/

PC Spec?  SP3 does seem to be a little heavier on ram.

Also, what AV solution are you running?

If a rebuild, check you are connected to right wifi  :-X

Lastly, pop up task manager, got to processes tab, and see if any processes are using lots of ram/cpu.

FF just makes life easier, had to do a spot of web dev work other day, and i had to forward the urls of some images onto networks to get them cleared in the caching servers, FF? right click copy image URL, bang done.... IE have to go into properties and highlight the whole url and then copy.

FF was designed for developers and people who need tools in their browsers, i have the User Agent Add-on which is a must for me. If i just needed a browser to surf, i would use IE

been using ie8 from the beta version up to now both on xp and windows 7..

I do rarely see sometimes additional tabs freeze  and dont work.. (although the first tab works)  in that case I close ie and re-open..

and in facebook I couldnt up-load pictures :( and use firefox instead..

imho ie performance is very dependant on antivirus software as the pages are being scanned on download..

if you want a fast working ie , I will recommend version 6..
(although will have problems on some sites)
