Title: Photobucket & viruses
Post by: hotel21 on 22 February 2010, 17:47:13
As above.

Couple of times recently went onto photobucket to get details of pics etc in my folder and some programme launches which tells me that my ,achine is riddled with spyware.  A pop up very similar to a windows origin with a slider down one side, if you follow.  If you click to move the slider then it launches a 'do you want to install zxzxzxz' and does not actually move the slider.

Done a full virus scan and the same with cache cleaner software but still happens.

Anyone else any experience of this??

Yep, had it. AVG keeps coming up threat blocked after going through about a page or two of photo's.

I keep the PC immunized using Spybot S & D, so perhaps that`s why I haven`t seen what you describe....I used Photobucket today, and no problem. ;)

something has hijacked your browser, update s&D then run it on next start up should sort it,
failing that run hijack this to see what is running in the background :y

Yep, i had the same on Sat. I wasn't sure where i picked it up from so i didn't say owt, but i thought it was from that site >:(
AVG picked it up, but wouldn't do owt with it. Gone back to Kaspersky again.
I'm sick of Virus Checkers at the mo >:(

I've had exactly the same virus and never been anywhere near photo-bucket but I had just finished doing a defrag of the hard-drive then went on line and the virus popped up almost immediately and killed my machine - only got rid of rid of it by going into safe mode and doing a restore :o

I use McAffee and Avira Antivir. Last Sunday Avira detected and quarantined:
Detection
"Contains suspicious code HEUR/PDF.Obfuscated"

Not had an issue before this.  :-/

As well as doing a Spybot scan, download and run Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) - this should shift it.  If not download & run HijackThis and save a logfile (http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html)  Quite happy for you to PM or email me the log file for analysis if that helps.
