A few years ago there was a programme on the tv, cannot remember what it was called, a one off episode.
It was filmed entirely in a police car rushing either a heart or a liver for transplant about 300 miles, through numerous counties.
There was a bit of a public outcry later because the recipient was an Arab or other Far East National.
I remember thinking at the time 'why did they just not helicopter it in'
Any ideas folks.

No!!!! It was something like World in Action or Panorama

I remember seeing that can`t think of the name but
iirc it was shown as a police camera action special
as it happened in late 80`s early 90`s choppers were few and far and would have taken too long to organise

FFS,
I was being serious.

when is it on??

If its the one I think you are thinking of, it was the transport of an organ across London in a Rover SD1 as there was no helicopter availability at that time.
No doubt Andy B will have a direct link but, meantime, race you to Google it!! ;D

I have seen this series of clips a number of times now and it still impresses me as much now as when I first aspired to such high stature.....
As per the clip, I subsequently made a point, whether in the driving seat or riding shotgun, to aknowledge the other drivers who allowed free and unimpeded passage due to the presence of blues and two's - or, in moderm parlance, millions of LED's and a cacophany of white noise... ;D
Standards boy, standards.... as a Ye Olde driving instructor was oft quoted... ;D

I saw this on Video in 1991 ish, was shown by the Met Police to a Meeting of IAM Drivers when I lived in Hertfordshire, came across it on U Tube a couple of years ago, I specifically remember the 'hand signal' to a truck driver who had not noticed the two cars behind him ::) ::) ::)
