Most of the Lotus-7 lookalikes you see are neither Lotus nor Caterham. There's loads of cheap and not so cheap imitations on the market.
I know, because the bloke next door is always building one. As soon as he gets it working, he gets rid of it and starts another. :)

No. No.No. You don't want one of those! ::)
a) The caterham will destroy it on the road.
b) The caterham will provide some feedback as to what's going on at the car/road interface. The TT has got to be the most uncommunicative so-called sports car I've ever driven.
Having said that, Caterhams sell for inflated prices because their owners consider them to be the "real thing", caterham having inherited a bit of paper that used to belong to Lotus. ;D
There are much better value sevens around. They are, after all, all just a climbing frame that's been tipped over onto its' side, with a wheel at each corner and an engine added. ;)
Don't dismiss them until you've tried one. WARNING: they can be addictive as Jereboam's neighbour seems to have discovered! ;D

Kevin, I know Caterhams are faster and better in handling in every respect..
but I want something close on top of me for everyday use not for shiny weather weekends :-/ :y
the newish car I use is 10 years old :'( :'(

When I finally admit to myself that I am too old to ride motorbikes I would like to console myself by getting a Caterham. The audi TT on the other hand is a car which says in a rather loud voice - "not only am I a hairdresser, Im quite a succesful hairdresser". ;D :y

The last monster my neighbour built had a 1000cc bike engine and a bike gearbox in it. It went pretty well, but he got fed up with not having a reverse gear, especially since we live in a cul-de-sac on a hill. :) :) :)
Actually, I have to take his word for it that it went well, as there is no way anyone my age, shape and weight could have got into it. :(

I Led a convoy of mostly bike engined cars off the ferry at Dublin on a particularly foul night a couple of years back. Got a bit lost. ::) Every wrong turn we all had to jump out and help the non-reversers to do a 3 point turn. ;D
An absolute pain in traffic but get them on the track or the open road and it's a different matter. 12k RPM red line and a 6 speed sequential gearbox? What's not to like? :-*

It was called the MegaBusa and its predecessor was called the MegaBlade as it used a fireblade engine (before the Hyabusa was launched) iirc :y

<pinches himself> Was that Tiffany Dell actually admitting to blowing the engine up? As in... His fault?
That's not what he said at the time, so I've heard. ;D
I just love the way the engine driving the front wheels just bounces off the rev limiter while you can hear the rear one accelerating away. ;D

About 11 years ago I was considering a Westfield, lack of garage, money and time put paid to that. I had a suitable engine and box ready.
