This is about politics, so anyone not interested can stop reading now.
As each day passes, I become increasingly concerned about the power of the EU over our lives.
With the General Election coming up, not one of the three major parties is the slightest bit interested in the subject (I wonder why? Gravy train on the horizon?).
Now, I know there are some who firmly believe that anyone of criticises the EU is a "Little Englander", but I defy anyone, yes anyone, to read these two links and not come to the conclusion that the EU is probably the least democratic, least accountable, and most wasteful organisation we have ever seen.
PS Fruity language in the first link.

Go ahead, call me a Little Englander if you like, but I want to live in a free society, not look back on one with regret that I said nothing... >:( >:( >:(

On the pole can we have the OOF party please and I can then vote for possibly a party other than the usual lab/cons ext. Just a trail of thought instead of knocking this thread stand up for us as UK citizen

Were the accounts ever properly audited and signed off as such? - have lost track.
Still, we should thank Brussels for supplying people of this caliber to assist us.......
Dr Jacovella is an academic, a trained project manager who took her PhD studies at Florence University, in the country where she was born. Her specialism is agricultural science but she now works for the European Research and Development Office (ERDO) at the University College London.
Yet Luce will never stand for election. She is not a politician. She does not work for any political party. She is not even a civil servant. She is not even British.
I rest easier with that news :y :y
****Zulu77 - firmly behind President Van Rompuy 8-) 8-) :y****
There, there, there my children - all will be well, trust us :y :y

If your firmly behind him, make sure you don't get caught in the Farage onslaught.

Why am I laughing, though? ;)

There's no alternative to doing so Nick when one examines the stated aims (after sifting through the serpentine machinations of this beast) of the body that is slowly, but surely, having a greater say in the day to day running of our country.

Poor HERMAN VAN ROMPUY . Funny, no one wanted Tony Blair to get the job but he would have been far better at it. How come we have an EU President AND Spain has the "rolling presidency"? more jobs for the boys.
All said though we (you) had better get used to all matters EU because it (membership of the EU) is not going to go away. The only way to affect things is from within the EU mechanism oh and by dreaming of "leaving the EU"!

The mechanism is locked down, so renegotiation or change is a non-starter. I believe it IS possible to leave the EU.
I further believe that unless this train is stopped, civil unrest - possibly war - will ensue in the next decade or two. Look no further than the fall of Yugoslavia or the USSR. Look also to Greece, where general strikes are planned. Sorry to be so pessimistic. :( :(

Not far off the mark........
"There is an all-out war against public servants, those who earn the least," said Spyros Papaspyros president of ADEDY, an umbrella union for public-sector workers. "We will fight to keep the little we have. The government and the EU must understand the crisis must be paid by the rich."
