Title: If the General Election was tomorrow...
Post by: Nickbat on 22 February 2010, 22:33:40
Who will you vote for?

I guess our forum has a reasonable cross-section of the UK public, so I thought it would be interesting to hold a weekly poll until the real election takes place. That means you can change your vote in each week's poll, if you so desire. I trust I have all main parties, and I have added a "None of the above" for anyone who will not be voting.

If the admins do not agree with this poll, please feel free to delete it.

I've set a 7-day time limit on this first one, so let's go! :y

NOTA.....

.....if only there was such an option; 'they' (all) might get an understanding of how little regard/trust/faith we have for politicians and government. :'(

I`ve never met a prospective politician yet, who was suitably/adequately qualified for the job they seek to hold.....and anyway, voting for them only encourages them! ;D

That's a very important point, Debs, and precisely the reason I put NOTA in. Indeed, I think there is much to be said for NOTA being on the ballot papers and in the event that NOTA has the highest vote there would need to be a further election (after the parties have digested the implications of such a vote).

I agree that the disconnect between the mainstream parties and the electorate has become very worrying indeed. I have made it plain on here where my support lies and one of the reasons for my change of allegiance is precisely this point.  :y

I am voting tactically - need to get a Labour nob out (he IS a nob) actually torn between a couple of parties

UKIP interesting - I reckon they will get some MPs if there are any decent people standing.

Here is currently Labour and he is useless, will probably go Conservative and the chap has actually done door to door - I have NEVER had any other parties do door to door.

The Cons PPC is a clever drop in - son of the Cons MP from the 70s and 80s and he was very popular

I dearly wish a Labour candidate would knock on  my door. ;) ::) ;D.........I really dont understand how anyone could vote for them unless they are living on benefits and aspire to remain that way for the rest of their days, or are a minority group with an agenda to push. :-/
I have been a "nota" for 20 years but am now voting UKIP on pretty much a single issue protest vote. Hoping that if the Tories do win they can be pulled back to the right where they belong. ;)

This is frightening... There seems to be a common theme of voting Conservative just to get rid of the "One eyed, Scottish Idiot"! :( :(

From what I've seen they are going to cost us even more! :o :o

I've probably lived through more General Elections than most of you, and I've observed that a Labour Govenment nearly always leaves the country in a mess.

They throw many at everything, and tax us to the hilt to pay for it, instead of getting to the root cause of problems.

But still people keep voting for them, just can't understand it.

I'll shut up, or I'll never stop.

Without doubt LD, we, all, will be paying the price, for the 'privilege' of being part of the New Labour experiment, for some time to come.

It won't make an difference Pete. 99% of the politicians are in it for themselves and it doesn't matter what party their from :(

I voted "none of these".

Sadly as an exiled Expat I am through a quirk of EU law not entlitled to vote for a national MP either in Spain or in Britain. I can and do vote for our local election and also our MEP.

I do however fervently hope that whichever party gets in will sort out the parlous state of the UK economy. Of course they won't.

I'm swinging towards Lib Dem, but if it looks like the tories have a shout, I'll vote Labour - I know what the Tory priorities are, I know who they look after and who they don't give a hoot about despite DC desperately trying to show they've changed - they haven't same old sTory i'm afraid  :(

my opinion on the outcome remains the same as its been for months - hung parliament with a Lib/Lab pact  :o the tories haven't nearly enough of a lead and that will shrink as we close in on election day

If by some disaster Labour get back in, I can just imagine them standing around on day one looking at each other thinking - 'oh sh1t, what do we do now :o'

UKIP do talk some sense, but arguably a vote for them is a vote to allow Lab back in.

Depends if you live in a marginal constituency or not.The Tory vote where I live is about 3 times the total opposition vote. If I lived in a marginal seat I think I would have to vote for the useless Tories to try to get rid off the worst government in living memory. I would hope that Dave would have the balls to make Ken Clarke chancellor and give David Davies a senior post as he deserves it imo.

I understand what you're saying and this has been discussed at length in other places. I am rather minded to agree with the statement that "if you vote for the lesser of two evils, you're still voting for evil." I think that UKIP may do quite well but even if they don't, at the end of the day, I feel more comfortable to vote according to my conscience, rather than tactically. I think neither DC or GB would be good for this country at this moment in our history, as we need to reassess our relationship with the EU in the light of its ever-growing and pernicious power grab.

It won't make any difference to the local result whatever I vote, because this is a safe Conservative seat.  I will be voting Conservative, though, because I want to register a vote against Gordon Brown and the Labour party.

I firmly believe that any vote for a minority party is a vote for Labour.

Let's hope that DC will make a better fist of being PM than he's making of being Opposition Leader.  Bring back...

Votes for the minority parties is a vote to let labour in again.

And people will say, how did that happen, I didn't vote for them.

I use the term "government" loosely. Very limited knowledge or interest i admit but it seems that when a general election is imminent they all lay out thier stalls, run the opposition down, promise to put the world to rights then if elected turn into a clone of the previous party, make the same cock ups, then tell the same lies to try & wriggle out of the mess they've made. I've live through a few different elections but it has had no effect on my little job or little mortgage, i carry on regardless & leave them to it.
If i knew which party could get me an NHS dentist i'd vote them in. I pay full N.I. so feel it's not much to ask!!!!! ::)

"Meanwhile our prospective next prime minister David Cameron has come up with a whizzo new scheme to make our inflated electricity bills even more painful than before:

He said: ” We need to apply gentle social pressure on people to bring down their energy use.

"So just as they’re doing in California, we will make each energy bill come with an illustration of how much energy people’s neighbours are using in comparison to their own usage, inspiring them to consume less in competition.”

The Booker is right. With honorable exceptions – such as UKIP and, on the environment at least, the BNP – our political class seem to have absolutely no understanding of the grotesque injustices being inflicted on their electorate in the name of the non-existent threat of “Climate Change."

What will it take, I wonder, for these imbeciles to wake up and smell the coffee? Will a hung Parliament do? Or will it have to be bloody revolution?"

Did anyone watch Darling being interviewed on Sky news this evening. It was astonishing.
He admitted that " the forces of hell were unleashed " on him from 10 Downing St. ( and from the Tories) when he voiced the opinion that we were in for the worst recession in 60 years. This imo adds a lot more weight to the "Brown is a bully" story.
He didnt try to deny that from 2003 to 2007 Chancellor Prudence Brown ran the national deficit up from£32 billion in 2003 to £163 billion in 2007. :o :o :o
This was despite the fact that the country and the City in particular were experiencing a spectecular boom and the tax receipts at the Treasury were therefore collossal.
He also admitted that we are currently paying £40 billion per year in interest alone on the money they have borrowed. My maths isnt that great but I make that over £100 million per week ? :o :o
How any responsible citizen could vote to re-elect that is completely beyond me.  :-/
Despite the fact that I am no big fan of the Tories it is a historical fact that when they are in government they whip the economy into shape and when Labour get back in they wreck it again.

Thus, to fill the energy gap, the Tories intend to rely on electricity produced by individuals and communities from rooftop windmills and water turbines, solar panels and boilers fuelled by wood chips.

The idea is so ludicrous that one struggles to believe that any adult, much less a political party, could even contemplate it.

"...we are looking at the very real possibility that he will be even worse than Brown."

Impossible though it seems, I am inclined to agree.

I've said this before, but one would hope Cameron would have advisers behind him who do actually know something about the electricity supply network to prevent him making gaffes like this.

That he does tells me either that he doesn't, and is therefore stupid, or that he receives advice but thinks he knows best, which puts him right up there with Brownnose and B.Liar. >:(

What is funny is that the local people and media are already acting as if our current MP will lose his seat
