Well, at least you can see them here, even if you can't hear them. (I can though! ;))

Nice and semi rural here, quiet......
Until the bloody planes go over from East mids airport.
Nowhere near as bad I would imagine as Heathrow.

Had a demo of one of these a few weeks back. http://www.hamradio.co.uk/acatalog/Av_RD_Kinetic_Avionics.html

Very impressive bit of kit, although I wouldn't pay £500 to watch (and listen to) planes fly around a map myself.

If only the RAF would leave it out with their Chinooks it would be very pleasant where I live. ;)

I was talking about the webcam, rather than the products. Maybe someone on here will take a look and figure it out!  :)

Apparently the radar box works anywhere and gives you live air traffic control data. You just plug it into a USB slot and load the software...I think.

You could try looking at the forum as it has a FAQ section:

The radar boxes receive a signal from the SSR (secondary surveillance radar) transponder fitted to all large aircraft. Essentially, these are the "pings" that the aircraft send in response to being interrogated by a radar system, and what air traffic control use to keep track of the aircraft.

They contain a unique identification for that aircraft, the position and speed and all sorts of other information. More information can then be gleaned by using the aircraft's unique ID to look up what the aircraft is currently doing - flight number, airline, departure and arrival airport, etc.

You connect this box to your PC and you can see all air traffic using SSR in your area plotted on a map. 8-)

Not an aviation fan myself but up here in Lincs we have i believe the only two remaining Lancasters. One @ E. Kirkby airfield which now only taxis & one @ RAF Coningsby which as far as i know is still in flight. When i lived in Tattershall with an ex lady we took her young lad along to see it. I went along out of duty but when it came into land it was so low & going so slowly i was quite taken aback.
Stood underneath it you could see all the detail. :y

Looks very interesting, I must fit one of those transponders to the flying saucer  ;D ;D

At this moment, 23:24, a dodgy airways, sorry Ryan Air 737 has just disapeared around the scottish borders. I didn't know there was an airport around there ?.

Hmm, a Jet2 plane has just done the same thing, perhaps the radar doesn't go that far up north.

We live on a main flight path into Birmingham but at 18 miles or so away the planes aren't low enough to cause us any noise probs etc. About 10 years ago on return from a flight to Dublin I did spot my house and local points of interest from the plane window ;)

when my parents moved here in 1950 this suburban area near Heathrow was like the country - Heathrow Airport was a good day's picnic opportunity, you could sit near the runways watching the planes, and the airport building was a little wooden hut ..bit different now  ::)
