Hi all, being a great believer in recycling and reusing components, just done something I have been meaning to do for a while, just registered online to donate organs after my death after being prompted by a t.v. ad. How many of you "out there" are going to donate, and what do you think of the about organ donation?
-
I'm on the organ donation register, the bone marrow register and I give blood quarterly :y

.....yep........... three times a year..... I give my 470ml......Jimbob has donated about forty times......I think..... :y :y....I'll have to look into organ donation. :y

I seriously doubt that any of my organs would be of any use. ::) :)
-
They can have whatever is useful, and the rest goes to medical science.
Why pay £1000's for a funeral when we can benefit others, and those in the future for free.
-
Been registered a long time now.
I used to give blood too, but i haven't been for a few years :-[
-
Used to give blood several times a year but they don't want it now. Take too many prescription pills, apparently.... :'(
-
:( i'm not allowed to either donate blood or organs-i was in hospital a few years ago and had a blood transfusion and i now have an increased risk of developing CJD ! nice >:(
-
Can`t now give, but have already gratefully received in life; will be leaving all that`s left for others, after I`ve gone! ;)
One of my dogs (Cody), is also a Veterinary blood-donor; he has saved several lives! :-*

As Albs said. If anything left is any use as spares/repairs by then they are welcome. I don't want a funeral, (been to two...awful affairs) neither did my grandmother. Traditional burials are all very well but we'll run out of room soon, our whole isle will become a graveyard...& Tesco of course.
Burn what's left & throw it off a mountain top on a windy day!!!! 8-)

For me, better to go off into the far horizon - without fuss, looking firmly forward without backward glance.

Don't believe in in swapping body parts. I don't want any bits of me used in someone else, and I don't want any bits of someone else used in me. Might accept a blood transfusion, reluctantly.
No funeral, either. After I've finished with it, I'm quite happy for the inert bits of my corpse to be used for medical research as long as they don't try to get them working again. But it's actually quite complicated trying to arange for this - lot of paperwork involved, and I get the distinct impression that the hospitals don't really want to bother. They haven't really got a lot of use for old body parts.
Did you know that Anatomy is no longer a part of the BM/BCh degree that most doctors take? Medical students no longer dissect cadavers as part of their training until they start postgraduate studies in surgery, and not always then.
Anyway, any bits of me left over after the NHS has taken what it wants should be put out for the bin men on a Friday. :) :) :) Provided, of course, it's rubbish and not recycling that week. :)

We gave blood as a team. We all had the afternoon off to donate. Being blokes we made it a race with beer for the winner, the nurses had never seen so many ways of trying to get the bag filled quickly. They were not keen on timing us but as we brought nearly 20 people they relented, dont try drinking your winnings the same day though, its like being 14 again.
Quickly became a regular thing in the company.
Shame that now I am in the forces I can't donate now due to my area of operations and variety of jabs.
Big up to all who do donate though, share the wealth.

I lost my cousin just over 12 months ago to a sudden brain hemorrhage, he was just 31 years old, fighting fit and had everything to live for.
His parents agreed to have his organs donated (he would have wanted it to) and we know he helped 7 people live.....and have letters from some of them.
Its very heart warming to know that others benefited from our loss.
Hence I am and always will be on the donor register.

I gave blood up until a few years ago when i was told they don't want my blood anymore as i had a blood transfusion in 1982 and a number of ops up to 1995...would that include organs too? :-/
