Title: The Rover P6
Post by: holtender on 05 March 2010, 23:34:49
This used to be my kind of car as  I have owned 3 of them, I hope to get hold of a decent one for when I retire and treat it like an old friend!

Often fancied flaring the arches on one, aka John Steeds Jag but might be a little old for that now.... :D :D :D

Had a P6 3500S it would spin the rears in 2nd on a dry road.

Then bought a 5 speed 3500SD1-wouldn't pull Granny off the p!!! pot.

Wish I'd kept them both though.

That's very surprizing, they're supposed to be quicker & my SD1's where all quicker than the P6 V8.

My second car was a 1966 P6 2000SC, light blue & with beige leather 8-) 8-) I never knew what speed i was doing, because the speedo would bounce at + or - 5mph ;D
I wouldn't like to go through any Speed Cameras with it ;D
A few years later I had a 1977 2.2TC in Maroon & beige velour, i had the spare wheel placed on the boot to gain boot space :y
Then i had a my first 3.5 Auto 8-) 8-) 8-) & at only 19 years old. Try that nowadays :( Progressed to SD1's after that & i had many  8-) 8-) 8-) :) :)

The P6 was a lot, lot quicker than the SD1. It was only 4 speed but the ratios may have been shorter.
I always had the impression that the SD1 engine was not giving it's best-maybe the camshafts were worn.

My mate had a 3 year old auto SD1 3500 in the early 80's and that would abolutely fly. He blew the engine at 135mph due to not checking the oil.

And the followers, and the timing chain and the rockers shafts.....and that would be after only 60K miles!  ;D ;D

I know where this a P6B sitting on a driveway going green slowly.

They had different stainless wheel trims to the auto :y

The trims are used on VW Camper Poofter Vans by some folk :(
