Title: Boston & Stump
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 06 March 2010, 17:32:06
Today I had my first every visit to Boston & visited the famous "Stump", i.e. St Botolph's church. It's the tallest parish church tower in the UK @ 272 feet.

Well worth the climb up the tower, the view was superb & the peal of 10 bells were ringing too - for about 2 hours.

Went for a fish & chip lunch afterwards - fantastic  :y

The view is excellent - but you can't get to the very top. There is  balcony about 2/3 of the way up. To the north you can see as far as Lincoln Cathedral  - which is the same height.

I dont know the names of the streets, but from the Church, left into the main square, down as far as the Clarks shoe shop and left again - its down the end of a short pedestrian street on the left. Its a takeaway and has seating downstairs & upstairs.

After 2 hours ringing lunch was very welcome .....  :y

I lived in Boston for a while & thoroughly enjoyed the place. Everybody was on the lash all the time....even at work. Dunno about the chippies but there was an excellent Indian. Can't remember the name but it was on a corner near a cycle shop & Dawsons TV.!!!
The Axe & Cleaver pub was & i hope still is one of the few remaining REAL pubs in the country. Had some cracking local indie/rock bands playing & a properly stocked jukebox if not. Made a refreshing change to the trendy club soul patrol pretty boy scene that seems sadly to be the norm for a night out nowadays.
     I love the town!!!!! :y
