Title: Do they EVER charge anyone...?
Post by: feeutfo on 13 March 2010, 02:17:04
Road wars, Police camera action and all that, why bother? apart from local interest in the Thames valley, Omegas, and entertainment value, it seems a total waste of time, they just let everyone go. Its either "released, no action taken" or "released with a caution" ...why bother? just let them get on with it and have the Police just fill out reports.

What gets me, Plod are so cock sure and in some cases heavy handed, oh yeah, you've got class A in your posession, and an offensive weapon, your nicked son, and just let let them go with a caution. Wheres the deterant?

Read some figures somewhere, of all arrests made something like 10% lead to a conviction! If i was a scally i'd be rubbing my hands, the odds of getting cought are slim, arrested and charged slimmer still, convicted? bah no need to worry about that, and if by some long shot you do get a conviction it'll be a piffling "stretch" reduced for good behaviour....what a joke.

I think it's because of this sort of comment that Thames Valley stopped cameras filming with them. They were worried they did not come across as being tough enough....

Cult TV series ‘does not show us in best light’

Thames Valley Police has decided not renew its contract to be filmed for cult TV series Road Wars.

Traffic police officers have became minor celebrities chasing baddies since 2002 on the Sky programme which often featured incidents in Bracknell.

But senior officers thought the fly-on-the-wall series did not reflect the force well.

The worst one was this weeks one with Trevor Mcdonald (car crime Uk or something) they did the full run down at the end and was shocking. Not One person actually had any action taken against them. Must be frustrating for the police when they catch the crims but they get let off at court for one reason or another.

Having a couple of mates in the police, IIRC the issues are :

1) If they nicked every criminal there wouldn't be enough hours in the day to do all the form filling.

2) Once they've done all they can it's up to the CPS to bring about a prosecution. A lot of the time they don't bother, much to the frustration of the plod. >:(

from what i saw, Plod have anything but the cps in mind when making arrests, they had a 999 call re a burgler in a back garden, on arrival they found no sign of brake in, or anything amiss at all. But discovered a scally in the deapths of the garden hiding. Nothing in his hands, no tools or goods, but because the shed door was open they nicked him for breaking and entering the shed. No evidence of it or eyewitness to back it up. No suprise he walked uncharged. All they had was trespassing. Although you might argue braking into the shed was intent to find tools to brake into the house. Intent seems to count for nothing.

The real reason for no prosecutions is that there isn't any space in the prisons etc.

Time to bring back chain gangs methinks

It's the CPS who are the villains, not the Police

..........and let them sleep out in the open??
Even a chain-gang would need prison cells at night!

well, ultimately, if you take it all the way down the line, its our fault. We wont pay the tax. Or wont vote for a party that will raise taxs.

However, if we have dibble making daft judgment calls we narrow our resorce even more. Not saying thier job is easy though.

I often watch these programmes too and am amazed that the alleged offenders even bother trying to run/escape - it seems that the majority either jump bail or get a telling off or a fixed penalty fine.

I stopped watching road wars when it went to Devon and cornwall.

Maybe. Their first job would be to learn a trade and build us some more prisons. When we had enough then they could fill sandbags to hold back the North Sea. I had my fill of being a victim of the innocent sounding TWOC when I lived in England.
