Title: iTunes
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 11 March 2010, 11:51:53
Anyone use iTunes?
Been trying to get my head round it... :(
Tried setting up sharing between 2 pc's....all that seems to do, is duplicate music tracks.
At one stage i had all tracks duplicated x2 on one pc and x4 on the other one.
So gave up with that idea  :(
Then i tried importing music tracks.....works...but sometimes it doesnt put all the tracks in same folder and just dumps them in the top level.....
And for the limited time ive spent playing with it i cannot see how you create subfolders and move tracks out of the top level into the subfolders  :-/

Any help would be appreciated.....and no i didnt go and buy an iPod, i won it in a competition  :y

Yes TD, I use iTunes.

I've got an eMac as opposed to a PC, and find things pretty straightforward.
Are you referring to creating 'playlists' as opposed to 'folders' I'm wondering?

If it's playlists we're talking about, simply click on the relevant song in the store's 'purchased' list, then drag it to whatever playlist you choose.

Mind you... Keep thinking I might have to get one for the car... SWMBO can get through 6 CD's in about 30 minutes as she's incapable of listening to it start to finish... Has to keep jumping about >:( >:(

Should i be using playlists then?
I was using the 'Music' section under Library (top left in Itunes) This is where the tracks i import seem to end up and it seems to me impossible to arrange them into 'folders'. If i import a cd then it does group the tracks into one 'folder'. But the problem i have is when i import individual tracks.

Without seeing your set-up, I'm not sure.

I've only ever downloaded individual tracks, and not had any problems.

You could try looking at the top of your desk-top with iTunes activated.
Go to 'File' and click - menu drops down with 'Playlist' shown.
Click on this, and an untitled playlist will appear on the left under the 'Playlists' heading.
You could then click 'Purchased' under the 'Store' heading, and simply drag whichever track(s) that you wish from there into your newly-created playlist.
You can also then name this new playlist as you wish.

I havent purchased any tho......im trying to import music and arrange it in a tidy fashion from my cd collection.
I have tried what you have suggested, creating playlists is easy, but then it wont let me drag tracks from my imported disks into it.  :-/

Oooer - it's possible that you've failed 'cos you don't actually have an iTunes account.

What you are doing, Dave, is going all around the world to get to the place you need to be. Hardly surprising really ;D

In my (admittedly limited) experience of gayTunes, trying to run it on 2 different PCs, but one Apply gayPod/Phone ends in tears, and a screwed music collection.

Shouldn't that be "Just what do you think you're doing, Dave? "  like "2001 : a space odyssey" all over again. The all seeing crApple eye of gayness has seen what you are trying to do with the music you paid for - and it doesn't like it. ;D

Sussed it  :y

You have to make sure 'Album Artist' and 'Album' isnt empty when you do a 'Get Info' on each track. With the right info in those fields...Itunes automatically sorts and groups them for you  :y

Happy now  :)

This probably happened 'cos you didn't actually purchase the music from them.
Glad you got it sorted!

Create a "smart playlist" titled with album name and use the album name as the filter field, assuming your Mp3 are tagged correctly that is.

This will automagically create a kind of folder for each album. They will appear in "library" &  the playlist, they are not duplicated.

You could just as easily arrange by artist etc.

The other option is click on track, click on info and make sure there is a tick in the 'part of a compilation album' box.

I was ready to kick my pc/ iPhone out the window as it would list the same album loads of times with a different artist, 14months it took me to sort it!!

Also when sharing accounts accross pc only import items 'not on this pc' to avoid doubling up
