Title: The Leaf
Post by: Nickbat on 18 March 2010, 15:56:26
So, just who will buy a car that has a 100mile range on a good day, but probably much, much, less on a cold dark wet night?

Enter "The Nissan Leaf", helped into production with £20.7m of our money.

Not the way forward, IMHO.  ::)

if it means jobs for the maccas or geordies, which ever ones they are. good luck to them, as long as the taxpayer gets something back in return for the loan

I suppose it could be quite economical if you can find a friendly truck driver to punt you along in the fast lane. ;D

Let me see if I've got this right ...

UK government is giving Nissan £20.7 Million  to safeguard 4000 jobs ... so they are paying Nissan £5000 a job .. with no guarantees of how long those jobs will last ??

Job seekers allowance is £64.30 a week, so the government is "hoping" these jobs last at least 77 weeks .....

But at least it will keep the Moron's stats correct .. in his eyes.... and all those grateful folk will vote for him ..

Not that it mattered when he bull5h1tt3d the Iraq enquiry about the defence budget.

The sooner he's gone the better. Don't really care who replaces him, as long as it's not Meddlesome (and it will be, if he wins).

They are so quiet they have to have the sound of a "motor" as an optional extra so you'll hear it coming....or the driver can go "brooom brooom"  ::)

Well two things spring to mind. Firstly they will have done their research for likely buyers. Secondly I think there is a huge market out there for such cars: The school run. Old folk who occasionally go down the shops. Second cars(for when the Omega breaks down)etc etc.

To be honest electric cars (or at least none petrol/diesel) have got to have a good future once battery life, weight etc issues are addressed. The roads of the future won't look like todays where people can have a free for all or put their boot down for a bit of fun. No we will all be driving nose to tail at a set speed, controlled by some fancy kit which hopefully won't go wrong too often.

The other two concerns I would have would be safety (How would they compare in a crash test against say an Omega?) and how would you charge them up and where? If you don't have a garage someone would unplug your charging lead after bedtime for a "bit of fun".

I just hope they don't bang on about them being green!

They are already Varche, classing them as being "zero emissions"!  No emissions from the car, but it is powered by electricity - that comes from some great big coal fired power station! ::) ::) ::)

I'll confess to being part of a team that helped these very people, Nissan, realise their dream of making the Micra convertible....the one with the metal folding roof. They failed on both of your 2 points there as well ;)
