Title: I've got to admit shamefully
Post by: Del Boy on 26 March 2010, 22:28:35
After ages saying they're crap and no good I now think, iPhones are fantastic, I'd say it's going to have to be my next phone, anyone else got one? I feel left out in my house now I'm the only one without one  :-[

I want one, but out of my price range.
Maybe in ten days or so I may have the funds,
But I really do like ny SE P910i, been with me a long long time, and I would miss it.
Sh!t, am I getting attached to a flaming phone? :-[ :-[ :-[

I have one, a 3G 8gb on Orange.....

Good in some ways......great games, applications, user friendly and great to watch TV on....looks the biz and lovely to use.....

Bad in others.....camera is 2mp and shit, phone loudspeaker is crap, battery life poor, have to clean it after every time you pick it up, not enough ringtones and only notifies twice on incoming texts.....

Want my N95 8gb back please........!! that was the perfect phone.....

Hmmmm, I may get shot down in flames over this, but... I've never been one to buy into the Apple "ethos".

iPod - pants
iPod Touch - pants with a flashy screen
iPhone - pants, ditto above, but with additional pants phone/sms functionality (like not being able to forward an SMS unless you upgrade with a certain patch etc)
Macs - why pay extra for a machine with lower spec than it's respective PC (be it Win7 or Linux)?

Everything with Apple seems like you pay more to get less.  You just pay for the name, end of.
But that's just my opinion  :y

Forgot to mention also that the BlueTooth on an iPhone only connects to other Apple products.......

How annoying that is, you wont know until to try to swap pics with someone or onto a photo kiosk.....

I have one to....and I dont use it.

Why you may ask, well its simple.

1) The actual phone fucntion is crap
2) The camera is crap
3) The battery life is very crap (although I have the battery pack on the rear which helps but makes it very big)
4) Its pretty slow when you ask it do anything 'hard'

I have come to the conclusion that it has but 1 single thing its good at.....and thats its ability to access loads of pointless apps.

Hence, I am back onto a standard basic phone again which does the basics well.

In conclusion, its all mouth and no trousers

Has he stopped telling everyone he borrowed it off Mrs. TheBoy now, then? :-X

Frankly, the only thing I've ever wanted to do with a phone is talk to people. If I want to send e-mails, access the web, etc. I have a netbook with a proper keyboard. If I want to take pictures I have a digital SLR. If I want to watch a film I have a TV, etc...

Yes, a gayphone can do all these things - very badly. They are even sh1te for speech quality when being used as a phone, I find. ;D

That's from someone who has worked in mobile telecomms for nearly 20 years.

I am offered an upgrade to Iphone after being with Orange 13 years but the Nokia 6700 with 600 mins and unlimited tests plus data for £15 per month seems the way to go. A phone that seems to have a good reputation as a phone.

A few years ago i had a Sony Ericson k800i, it was their top of the range camera phone at the time. Had every feature i would need, my current phone has nothing radically different. Was solidly built, unlike most phones now and lasted me two years perfectly. If i hadnt have lost it i would still have it now, i think another 2 years later.
Currently have a Nokia e63 on contract, its a good solid phone, and certainly much better than the LG touchscreen crappy thing i had before, but still doesnt feel as solid as the old SE.

When I last upgraded, I got a SE walkman phone thingy. I used it for a month and then dug out my old nokia. SE is in a drawer somewhere.

i personally dont think the iphone is particularly good at anything, esp when you consider its the only model phone apple produce, which is its strength compared to Nokia as Apple have refind out any bugs and concentrate on one model with one o.s.

Other manufacturers, if given the same one product deal over the sme time frame, would have a far more powerfull gadget by now.

Only thing i would like on an iphone is tomtom with external gps module, tomtom is not available officialy in fully working form for any of the latest nokias afaik.

I currently have a Nokia n900, which if bug free would be fantastic, but in true Nokia style they are happy to let thier customers find the bugs for them.

I've had the same K850i since '07.
I keep getting the "you're entitled to a free up-grade" texts and letters from Orange, but the K850i does everything I need so I've not bothered.

Wouldn't know what to go for anyway. :D

True, but it wouldn't be one of the "cool" phones on a free up-grade. I've been on Orange 'Everyday 50' (which is a 'no longer available' tariff) for about 11 years. I get 50 mins a day (1500 p.m) for £11.50 a month and if I exceed the daily 50 free minutes, it's only 1p a minute from there on.
They don't really want me on it as I get mucho minutes for not mucho money.
Normally if you're not happy and threaten to leave, Orange will say something like "Hang on...let's see what we can offer you !"
In my case they'd say "Ok, bye !!"  :D

My daughter has an iphone, gets an upgrade every time they bring out something new etc......very flashy little device indeed, apart from the small fact that when she rings me I usually cant understand a word she is saying. ::)

A couple of people at work have them & now have a love/hate relationship with them.

The hate bits are:

1) Battery life
2) Poor handsfree
3) Poor audio quality - to the person at the far end
4) Poor Bluetooth implementation

I'll hold onto my Nokia E71 for a bit as I don't use any of the cool things an iPhone can do ....

Totally agreed.....my Mrs has an E71 and she loves it.....though the keys are too small on it for my chubby fingers........!!!

Iphone bluetooth is shite, only allows connection to other Apple devices so its not really Bluetooth at all......cant send pics with other phones etc etc
