Replaced front wheel bearings, brake discs & pads
Camcover leak sorted on driver-side (the easy one...), breather box cleaned.
Errrr... that's it. :)

Just a reminder to anyone considering changing the front bearings - it is only one single nut, if you have the right tool to remove it and the right tool to fasten it then there really isn't much too it...

1. Replace only, they are non-adjustable (e.g. you can't just tighten then a bit to eliminate play etc)
2. They come with the wheel hub (the bit that the disc brake bolts onto)
3. they are around £70 each side on TC :(
4. the good news is that they normally go... I must have been unlucky.

OK, cheers. If the pavement surface and speed are just so I get a wobble/rattle in the OSF that feels like a wheel bearing, ball joint, etc. However I have new wishbones and the steering links are all solid. Only other possibility is droplink I guess.

A bearing problem should come up as play when rocking the wheel with the car jacked-up. Incidentally, mine was only rocking side-to-side, but nor top-to-bottom. The way to confirm apparently is to have someone fully apply the brakes and then check again for play - if the play is gone, then it's the wheel bearing, if the play is still there then it is another suspension component.

I did look for pattern, but the only seller that had them for real cheap (£40) only had one unit, and I needed two... the other ones I found on eBay were marginally cheaper e.g. around £60 so I decided to stick with Vx. I didn't try the likes of Autovaux though....

The Vx ones I bought are made by Toyo Japan. I know that SKF makes Omega front bearing (with the Hub), and they are pretty good, but I couldn't find them anywhere...

Well it does not matter who made the hub, if they stuck a Japanese or SKF bearing in it then it will be OK...
