Do you really still believe that £361 sterling is a "staggering" figure in 2010?

I insured my astra with autotrader last year...£180. If I let them automatically renew, I fully expect to be shafted. So I won't. I'll change to another provider, and the same next year.

Change your insurance company then, because it's an old trick.
Norwich Union (now Aviva) did the same to us a few years ago, they pushed the premium from £180 to £240 in the space of a year even though they hadn't heard from us claim wise.
A 5 minute search on the web got us prices we considered acceptable, and better conditions to go with it.

I am insured with Zurich and it's cost me £41 a month for 10 months. I have three points, and my brother is on that as well. That also includes whatever it is they charge you for credit.
I was happy. I was expecting a lot more for a 3.2 Elite.

£410 is about right for an omega, although they sometimes go as high as £500 on ebay. ;D

I'm 29
no ncb as named driver for 7.5 years on my other halfs policy
in June will be my first years ncb
no accidents claims etc..
I've got 2 quotes one from my current insurer up until renewal and one to start from scratch again...
The car is a 2001 x 2.5 v6 cdx auto
this will be interesting to read the replies!!!!

30 years young with 3.2 MV6 Estate. 5 years NCB and just switched to AXA.
£320 which I was rather chuffed with!! £100 less than my 5 series BMW!!
-
mine is 40 dearer than last year with no change and an extra yrs no claims bonus.and that is the cheapest i could get. from what i was told, record amount of claims last year, lot of accidents caused by people who are not used to driving on the left and having no insurance.
-
omega went down by £31 so any reduction is welcome..multicar policy with admiral,,,now £272... 43yrs full no claims 2.6 est 2001...

Im 22 and getting the miggy insured here was no problem. I pay 60 euro every three months ;) pretty decent I think..
-
I pay £177 for a year full comp and with going through beat that quote i got £25 cashback so that takes it down to £152.I'm 38 with full no claims, maybe a bit worrying that it costs more to tax the car than it does to insure it ! :-/

Yeah, but Grimsby is a crime free area.

Yeah, but Grimsby is a crime free area.
The crime is VERY free (and easy) in Grimsby,we are presently having one of the worst crime areas in the country knocked down.Have a look for info on Guildford Street and you will see what I mean.I live less than two miles from there. :(

I regret to say that I paid £450 with Admiral this year and £375 with Saga last year.........
However,
When I got my renewal quote from Saga a couple of months ago, the premium went up to £520. When I enquired why, I was told that the introductory discount and free installments no longer applied hence the increase. I mentioned to the Saga lady that a 40% increase was unreasonable she reduced the increase by £50.
I take exception to what I believe is somewhat sharp practise and would not have stayed as a matter of principle!!
My premium level is explained by my living in SE London and having my 30 year old son on my policy.
When your son's say they are leaving home, don't believe it for one moment!!!

well im currently with the post office for a megane scenic 1.6 which was £324 p.a
they charged me £212 to change to my omega 2.2 up until renewal on 1st June
I phone them to get a quote for 2.5 V6 it would cost £312 up to renewal so an extra £100 on top of what i paid already!!
a new quote for me if i started a fresh with no NCB would be £700 approx... i do not know what to do!
-
2466.26 that was my last quote for my 2.6 elite with 4 years ncb from 500 quid the year before nearly had a heart attack got it down to 488 tho with a named driver and full personal brake down cover boy did i need a drink after that last quote ;D
-
About the same as Barclays quoted me for my house insurance online...£2600...bearing in mind we currently pay about £25 a month and their quote included a supposedly substantial discount because I have an account with them! lol
-
I really do not know why the banks try to sell insurance. On the couple of occasions I have asked for a quote on-line, it has always been at least double the average quote of the rest. Maybe they make so much selling insurance to the Little Old Ladies who think their bank will always look after them!!
-
A little tip for anyone that renews insurance over the winter months (AS I used yo). Get some quotes over spring, summer and autum and see what the differences are, I had a break and didnt insure for 6 months, premiums were a lot cheaper in summer months
Also er seems a bad time to insure (Or it used to be) as insurers are aware of a rush on car purchases to get away for an easter break.
Just a thought but might save someone £100 :y
-
i've paid about £400 for the year which started with a 3.0 elite miggy and now I fully expect the 406 to be cheaper, full NCD, low risk area, cheap car to repair but we'll see.....one thing i would say is very often theres a reason a quote can be the cheapest so check you've got all the bells and whistles you want and you're NCD is protected if poss :y
