Title: How would I get to?
Post by: Del Boy on 02 April 2010, 20:28:29
Linlithgow, West Lothian, United Kingdom. Mrs doesn't want to go, I can understand why, don't want to pay the train prices of over £180 either so how else would I get there? Would be me and a 15 year old. Looked on national express they know where I'm coming from but their website doesn't know the place I want to get to. Found a very cheap van up there as I sold mine today and don't want to fuel the car or use any of the other cars I have either all 4 of them are all off the road.

It's about 20 miles from Edinburgh, so bus to there and local service I reckon.

I always use national express, no matter what. Took me 7 hours to get to Brighouse from Oxford to get the Range Rover. Just find a place that's near where you want to go, and then get a taxi, or a local bus or something. There's always ways of doing it, I never bother with the train. It only cost me £33 to get to Brighouse.

daft as it is for buying vans, motorbike to get there and then strap in the back to drive back.

or buy a scrapper with couple weeks T&T plus AA Relay drive it there to get the van and get current owner to follow tou to a scrappy to weigh it in. :y

£120 on the bus to Edinburgh :o See I'd dearly love one closer to home but for one there isn't any cheap and this one has 35k miles Full dealer history couple of tiny marks but it's really cheap and needs nothing  :-/

Also that departs at 7:40 am and arrives at 21:05, so there is another cost for tea and coffee breaks plus fuel money which'll be probably another hundred quid.

cheapest option - bus it to Edinburgh, get train at Waverley or Haymarket to Linlithgow - STMO's on the money - it's about 20mins from Edinburgh by train - it'll be about £4 for the train  :y

Take your trade plates with you and get a lift. I've done that many a time, or phone united fleet distrubution or other such companies. They deliver cars and are always happy to help fellow traders get about. I went up to Brighouse, I was staying in a Hotel over night, phoned up the local car dealers round there and one came to pick me up from the bus station took me to the hotel and took me to BCA in the morning. They're more than willing to help each other out, had a good old chat with him, and I'd do the same for him or others round here  :y

It's funny you should say that Steve, the coach driver said the same to me. His list said there were no passengers for Brighouse, so I showed him my ticket. He laughed and said, 'no one would lie about wanting to go to Brighouse'. I thought it seemed quite nice there though.

Personally I would fly from London city to Edinburgh, then train or taxi to your destination. Life is much to short to spend a day on a coach. :y

Any rough idea on a price? Every bit of money spent to get there and back is money taken out of my profit so, need to keep the travel prices very low  :y

Does that include the taxes? There are stories of the £30 flights on shlttyeasyjet that turn to over £100 with the taxes.

Pity H21 wasnt picking a car up, he could drop you off on his way home. :-/

Furthest looming on the horizon at the moment is Morpeth on possibly Tuesday.  Was going to be Nottingham on Monday but that deal fell through....   ::)

Why not get the seller to bring the vehicle to Dalmeny or North Queensferry?  Only a few miles for the seller....  Its on the main line, gets more through trains should the whole deal fall apart plus, you could get a day out viewing the bridges or Deep Sea World at North Queensferry?

Its the east Coast Main line to Aberdeen and Inverness.  You need to check the actual timetables to ensure the trains actually stop at intermediate stations.  If not, change at Waverley and get the Fife Slug whichs stops at everything.....   :D

Its only a few miles out so wont cost any great shakes for single/return from Waverley to Dalmeny.  Couple of quid tops......
