Title: Ronnie project 2007/2 arrives
Post by: Ronald_McBurger on 10 April 2007, 20:22:14
This is the new project. a Facelift ELITE Auto with LPG 'conversion'. All the toys in Metalic black. Not the best car I have seen, but not that bad either. It arrived on a trailer about 7pm and I had to get it going enough to drive it off the road. 20 minutes later and it is on the drive.

Anyway. Some early pics: CLICK TO ENLARGE

It has some issues. Bodywork pretty good, but a couple of battle scars especially the NSF wing, but I can fix that easily. Enginewise? Mmmm. Sounds acceptable, but rough. Manifold gasket blowing (Oh joy) and the LPG is just a mess. Who the heck put this in? Stevie Wonder?

LKG tank in boot, Bose, rear blind, black leather, Xenons, Colour Sat Nav upgrade, everything seems to work so far. 4 brand new tyres, two Pirellis, two Michelin. 17in Alloys, 235 low profiles all round. 113k with full history.

All in all it will be VERY nice when done. Worth between £2k bottom and £3 tops. I bought it for less.

The LPG plumbing looks "interesting"!

Good luck with it - I am sure you will make a healthy profit!

Seems like a bargain, just a few issues...

Has the HG gone?

Been at hosiptal tonight. Put my back right out moving this car!

Anyway, too early to tell yet. Game plan is this: Remove all the LPG 'plumbing' back to evaporator. replace bagpipes for un-modified ones, same with servo pipe then replace blowing manifold gasket, two complete oil changes. Then run on petrol only to guage engine. I do NOT think there is anything wrong with HG. When I put the LPG back into commission, I will replumb it all using neat and caefully laid out pipework. This is all garden hose and jubilee clip crap.

When I started it, I ran on petrol for a few minutes, then switched over to LPG. It cut out. I switched backj and it started on petrol, but then held back. I suspect a problem with the LPG set up.

There is no rush with this one. It is that good, that when Mrs McBurger returns from her Europe trip on Thursday, I will see if she wants it. If not, I will upgrade her CDX Estate to Laidbacks grey leather interior. If she does, I will sell teh CDX Estate reluctantly. That has been a superb car so far. 160k on the clock and goes like the clappers as Julian found out on saturday.

Anyway, no verdict yet on this Elite, except it was a bargain. Woprst case? Change engine, which I would actually enjoy doing. Only a days job really, but I will see what can be done with this one first.

I will update as we go. Now, off to rest my sodding back. Got to go back to hospital in the morning. My GP wanted me to go by ambulance tonight, but I got a cabn because it is cheaper, quicker and more hygenic - evn with Stavros the kebab king driving it.

Good luck with it Ron  :y

I assume it had lpg in it? If so then sounds like its got a prob of some sort....
What sort of lpg system has it?
Sounds like its been diy'd badly......if it hasnt got an lpga cert for it and you plan to get one (which you should really for your insurance comp) then might be good idea chatting to lpga installer first....to make sure you plumb it back in ok.....be a shame if you redid it and the lpga installer wasnt happy to put a cert on it and made you do it again!

Well it looks like a twin mixer system, as to not running, do both solenoids click?

Is there gas?

Is there a clogged filter?

Yes it does look a mess, those pipes could be better routed, jubilee clips are good though easy to remove for maintenance.

I would say get it working on petrol then take it to a local specialist, mixers are not easy to set up DIY as they don't self learn

I don't know about gas content yet, probably empty. Interestingly, the fuel gauge is showing low light, but also showing 1/4 tank. So, maybe they have wired the fuel gauge and LPG contents together? LOTS more digging to do yet.

I agree about getting the LPG looked over for a certificate. I am just trying to get more info on who installed it and when. It does look DIY, but then you never know. I would like to change the plumbing A LOT.

There is no rush for this car, it can take a couple of months if needed. I would like to make this a good one as the car deserves it and so do I.

Normally its only factory fit lpg that they use the same gauge.

Retro fit usually has button to switch between the two and a crap gauge built in switch of 4 green leds and 1 red led.

So does it have a changeover switch and no guage built into it then?

Edit* To gauge the gas level it tries to measure the pressure in the tank.

Also if you do put lpg in it to try the system out....and its been empty for a while in my experience it may be a bit of bitch to get it run back on lpg to start with.....just peservere with it  :y

Thanks TD.

TBH I haven't looked yet. There is a changeover button/switch thing and I think it has LEDS on that, so that'll be the 'master computer processing unit' then.  ;D

Naaaah. Not in any rush with this one. It will get done when it gets done. I just couldn't say no at the price I paid.
