Look in the BIOS and see if there are any protections for cpu fan not spinning.

Have you cleaned all the dust out of the heatsink and fan, and put now heat sink paste on if you have had the CPU out.

Just sounds like the CPU is getting hot and shutting down/restting the computer.

Just a thought.

yes have cleaned all the dust out
have not removed heatsink or cpu
as said if i remove the little four pin plug from near the cpu both fans run normally and the computer does not switch off but still does not beep to say there is a problem nor does it boot up

remove the memory sticks, reconnect the 4 pin power .. try it .. should beep for no memory error...  if it doesn't my guess is the MB has had it  .... I have a couple of MB testers that plug in to PCI slots .. but they are not cheap ...

Sounds like something (short circuit?) is dragging down the output of the power supply to me. Does any component on the motherboard get hot after a few attempts to switch on?

I've used Novatech several times for "bundled" boards ... board, CPU, memory, all matched and tested ... saves a lot of hassle ... :)

Aria or Ebuyer are ok, plenty to choose from for a bundle, unless you are just wanting to go for a new board, downside there is it depends on the CPU.  :-/

imo, before buying anything I would test the chasis and psu with a borrowed one..
