He has been quoted to say "Britain will become Europe's "life-raft".

Will become?  LOL!  I thought we already were!

Lovelock's an utter loony.  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

"I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while."

He also thinks that rising sea levels and heat will render huge swathes of the planet uninhabitable. Who's going to tell him sea levels are not rising?
Nah, leave him be, he's just a daft old man.

Not surprised you agree with him, though, Banjax.  ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

"I don't think we're yet evolved to the point where we're clever enough to handle a complex a situation as climate change"

"Even the best democracies agree that when a major war approaches, democracy must be put on hold for the time being. I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while"

can sign under it..

He thinks only a catastrophic event would now persuade humanity to take the threat of climate change seriously enough, such as the collapse of a giant glacier in Antarctica, such as the Pine Island glacier, which would immediately push up sea level

a scientist of 90 years age.. and sure has a different perception than the ordinary..  must be taken serious..

seen such cases, some old people have very focused attention on special subjects and can see the picture more clear despite our cloudy and busy vision.. :(

No, Al Gore said so:

"James Lovelock has forgotten more about science than I will ever learn...."

and says "most scientists are working for universities which are connected to governments so its limited what they can say" :o :o

ps: agree with him, no reason to lie at age 90

Most Humans are not stupid. And i am not yet convinced that humans can have any effect on climate change.
Lest we forget,It all started with 'Global warming' which when it started to snow again conveniently was 'down graded' to  'climate change'.
Now it seems that we may be in for Global cooling ?

Lets not forget that last year several hundred of the worlds leaders and most influentual people and their spouses including Obama and Brown had a nice little 'mid week' break in Copenhagen and in between their shopping trips signed a few 'deals' which had more to do with Oil and Control of the masses than anything to do with the climate.

This is an interesting obsevation by Mr Lovelock...........

According to James Lovelock, by 2040, the world population of more than six billion will have been culled by floods, drought and famine. Indeed the people of Southern Europe, as well as South-East Asia, will be fighting their way into countries such as Canada, Australia and Britain.

"By 2040, parts of the Sahara desert will have moved into middle Europe. We are talking about Paris - as far north as Berlin. In Britain we will escape because of our oceanic position."

So thats quite a sobering scenario.looks like there will be quite a lot going on in the next 40 years.

I didint see his name is mentioned in the above reference or another one :-/

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1262750/Mega-flood-triggered-Europes-big-freeze--global-warming-plunge-cold-warn-scientists.html

from the reference;

'We don't know the exact period of time but we're talking about a catastrophic flood.'
The finding has confirmed past theories about the likely cause of a sudden cooling period called the Younger Dryas when temperatures in Europe, similar to today, quickly returned to ice age conditions. The cooling lasted for about 1,400 years.
'Our research shows that if you put a large volume of fresh water into the North Atlantic in a very short space of time, this is what happens,' Dr Bateman said.

This is a short term result as predicted by James Lovelock.. And I'm afraid he is not lonely..

What confuses people is that the global warming and freezing (not in poles) are combined cycles directly related ..  a freezing winter and lower avg temperatures doesnt mean the global warming stopped and going reverse..

Well, it's very mild here at the moment, and quite sunny. Should I mow my lawn this afternoon or wait until it gets scorched by the searing heat of the sun, or possibly dies through lack of moisture? Decisions, decisions.....

and we are proud of him  :y

How can we have a real discussion about climate change when the IPCC bends the science?  ::)

"A new form of calculus has been invented by the authors of the the IPCC’s Fourth Assessment Report (AR4), in order to create the false impression that global warming is accelerating...

...It is the same story with the misleading comment in the SPM mentioned above (“The linear warming trend over the last 50 years is nearly twice that for the last 100 years“). This statement was not in the original version reviewed by the scientists. It was inserted into the final draft that was only commented on by Governments.  The Chinese Government suggested deleting this, pointing out that:

‘These two linear rates should not compare with each other because the time scales are not the same’.

Well done to the Chinese Government for spotting that. Too bad their valid comment was ignored by the IPCC."

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/04/12/the-new-math-ipcc-version/#more-18382

There's good science...and there's junk science. The IPCC is a specialist in the latter.  :( :(
