Title: Flipping eck!!! - Computers.
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 13 April 2010, 15:51:03
Just spent all afternoon sorting and sifting documents reading to fill in, once sorted, filled them in and scanned them to copy.  Just gone the plug my old laser printer in to my new PC and it doesnt have a parallel port, over to the last PC I did before that, no parallel port, got a newish laptop here in front of me as welll and that aint got a firking parellel port on it either.

Started off a good day, am now getting fed up.   >:( >:( :-/

be aware of limited success with those cables.

I tried one or 2 a few years back, and they were intermittant to be kind.

depends on the printer as well, some talk better over them than others.

you would be better with a parallel network print server, cat5 to that, job done  :y

Actually I might do what JB has suggested, I have a cute little Shuttle case with a Duron 1600 init, was wonderering what to do with, now it may become a print server.   :y :y

Have never found any problem with any printer by Dell or HP, just some of the replacement cartridges are expensive, but as I go to have them refilled at Cartridge World, not a problem!!

in my experience, xerox is more troublesome than 13 yr old chav.... but that could by my bad luck. we hav 3 Brother printers at work, 2 of the are laser 16ppm printers, the other is an everything but coffee in one machine, not too expensive either www.ebuyer.com or www.aria.co.uk are places i would recommend (or of course there is me, but that would involve a lil more money with courier etc)  :y

still most PCs have parallel ports on their mobo.. but firms now dont make the necessary cabling :-?
just for that reason I've installed 17 PCs new cables for the barcode printers (although not my duty)

check your mobo document.. :y
