Looking forward to reading Philip Pullmans new book - he's on the radio at the moment - getting mad abuse from the god-botherers (mainly that section that actually take the bible literally, which no one really did until recently)
anyway - sounds like an interesting story, a bit like the bible :y

We know you're an atheist, Banjax.
Why can't you just accept that many people (including some on here) hold deep spiritual beliefs which they find fulfills their lives? Why do you feel the need to poke fun at them and their beliefs?
>:( :(

Not taking sides, but calling the Bibble a story book would be considered poking fun to some. ::)

as i understand it skruntie - the bible was written as a collection of fables to educate and inform the populace, it was never meant to be taken literally - thats only fairly recently in its history, much to the bemusement of many :o

You obviously have not read the Bible and understood the, in my view, very straightforward common sense messages that Jesus was giving to those that would listen. ;) ;) ;)
Please also remember that Jesus had such an effect that the great Roman Empire converted to Christianity, and the religion spread across the World, with us still observing the teachings 2,000 years later 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-).
Some collection of fables!! ::) ::) ::)
PS Jesus actually spoke often in parables to highlight the points he was making ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Aesops Fables, much easier to read, written 500 B.C. and a good few of the fables nicked from the Egyptians a 1,000 years before that, also suitable for children as mass slaughter, revenge killings, prostitution and homo-sexual rape tend not to be suggested as normal day to day living.

oh hell, i thought it was beans, but there was no label........didn't realise until the can was open :o

i honestly do keep meaning to read it Liz, I have a copy of Robert Crumb's "Book of Genesis" in the shop - which is tempting me to read as i love his art :)
now this religion has been around 2000 years, give or take. Ancient Egyptian religion was practised for 3000, Roman and Greek Mythology was around for 1000's of years before this 'new religion' became popular....in 1000 years they'll be another belief system along and Christianity will be viewed like all other ancient mythologies, surely? i don't believe Zeus is in the heavens watching over us along with Poseidon in the Oceans, Hades in hell, Hera, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Dionysus, Hestia, Hermes, Hephaestus and thats just the top 12 - i'm sure theres more...so you see Liz, I doubt most people nowadays believe in those 12 gods.
i'm an atheist, all that means is i believe in one less god than you 8-)
so the question is - what makes this new guy so special? he's only been around for 2000 years?

Read the Bible BJ, get some faith, then you will know as the Roman's and generations since have done. ;) ;) ;)

damn...theres no answer to that Liz ;D
well I might start a cult of my own, 1000 years from now "Banjaxism" will have spread to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, and my face will appear to sheep herders in Peru, on toast in Islington flats and statues of me will hold power over the masses :y 8-)
these posts will be known as gospel, uncovered in a dusty basement millennia from now my words will be followed.......of course they could get the totally wrong idea and hail Nickbat as the one true god - i fear for the galaxy :o :o :y
