My local Council has some of its officers on the so called rich list.
So I have done some digging in the public accounts.
89 employees are pulling around £7-9 million a year in total out of a workforce of just over 4000.
I have now lodged a freedom of information act request to clarify the pension contributions and benefits.
But get this - I was whingeing that with all that taxpayer money spent on a few people I could not get the area cleared of litter and the roads were in an appalling state - they have in last 2 days cleared the litter and filled in the potholes just in my area!!!
I am off to attend a Council meeting tonight for first time in years.....
As I pointed out - reinvest that money in people who directly deliver the services not those who just cut and paste from government imposed guidelines and tell you everything in the garden is rosy.

A friends wife works in a beauty salon (nails, hair, massage etc) They have a very regular customer, she works for the NHS as a manager for some department. Now she visits the salon twice a week during normal work time, it was thought she earnt about £60k per year. It transpires she earns £172,000 per year, for going to the salon twice a week, not bad eh. It also appears she has never ever worked in the private sector, started on local council as a PA and gone on from there.
The local rag say the NHS could employ six qualified nurses for that money.

It transpires she earns £172,000 per year, for going to the salon twice a week, not bad eh. It also appears she has never ever worked in the private sector, started on local council as a PA and gone on from there.
The local rag say the NHS could employ six qualified nurses for that money.
the very highest level for nhs managers is published at just over £97k (20% more if they're in London) so i doubt the £172k figure to be honest :o

I work for my local council as a minion(scum,sh*t on shoe,bottom of food chain etc)on (14.5k) I have a chargehand on(20k) then a supervisor on(25k) then a line manage onr(34k) then a waste managment manager on (44k) then a waste managment director on(56k) then a director of services on(65k) then god knows who after this in charge of me :o >:(.

I do agree you are right on the actual salary, I believe they worked it out on pension contributions and expenses. I fully understand us locals like to exagerate these claims when they are on your doorstep so to speak.
I should add there is no proof at the moment, it is just hear say and some chatter in the local rag.
I hope you are right with the salary BJ as I do support the NHS and would hate to think NHS money is just lining the pockets of a local salon.

Valid points and questions that have been raised directly with me by some customers, we are going through the third re-organisation in 4 years, however, they always employ outside consultants in temporary positions (e.g., 2.5k per week), and why because apparantley there is'nt the experience in house, or they just have'nt done their job in the first place. Most local authorities in England and Wales have to make year on year cuts of 5%, and that is a fact.
It's all a false economy because, some Council's cannot get experienced staff with the right skills. sometimes due to the salaries paid, then have to recruit via agencies paying higher rates.
