Title: Oh so quiet...
Post by: feeutfo on 17 April 2010, 09:25:17
Well i thought all those people who live near an airport would have a nice peicefull weekend, must be such a relief for the poor unfortunates.

I didnt put myself in that catagorie though as we live in Reading. But i really cant believe how quieter it is with no planes flying. More so i cant believe how much noise we're used to and take for granted/accept.

Now if we could just turn the motorway off that would be great, thanks. ;D

Remember, though, that the "poor unfortunates" tag could also be applied to those who are increasingly likely to lose their livelihoods as a result of this.

Except weekends in the summer, when everyone gets in their small planes at Turweston and Hinton.

I keep looking on ebay for SAMs, but the Taliban are snapping them all up :(

Depending on which way the winds blowing we normally have a plane flying over every 2 minutes. Wifey said I would get used to it but its been 13 years now and they still get on my nerves >:(

True, but it need not have happened, especially if correct procedures had been followed!

Oh dear...

"Two people have died after a light aircraft crashed and burst into flames in a field in Hampshire.

Private aircraft owners are strongly advised by the Civil Aviation Authority not to fly due to volcanic ash, however no legal restrictions are in force.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: "It is too early to say whether ash was a factor but it will form part of the investigation."

Business as usual at the gliding club.

It's only really turbine aircraft flying above 20k feet that have a problem so for 99% of private aircraft there is no reason, legal or otherwise, not to fly.

A bit of journalistic licence trying to generate a story out of a tragic accident, IMHO. :(

saw couple of light aircraft in the air today when out on the bike, what a stunning day!  8-)

Get feeling now any aircraft accident or even car related crashes, the ash will be blamed by the media  :-/

No real need to terrain follow. There's plenty of sky between ground level and 20,000 feet. ;)

Been lovely and quite here. Did have a DHL Boeing 737 fly over at about 800 feet with the wheels down though. Guess they're taking the opportunity to sneak a few into ATC Lasham for some maintenance.  ::)
