Title: a*sehole parking-what would you do?
Post by: jerry on 16 April 2010, 19:53:07
had the inlaws over the other day and they were telling us about a couple who'd made their local paper as someone had parked their car on their drive, partially blocking their access and then buggered off abroad for a week and a half. Seems they'd parked there to avoid airport carpark fees. They'd been told that the police couldnt help as it was not on a public highway and that they could not touch the car for fear of doing any criminal damage! Me, Id get a couple of mates, a couple of trolley jacks and park it on some double yellows somewhere. What would you lot do?

Depends on the circumstances surrounding the issue, but I wouldn't have a problem driving over any obstruction in the way of my drive if it was an ongoing thing.

To stay legal though, the trolley jack under the back axle and a couple of bodies to help move the car sounds perfectly reasonable.

I would clamp all four wheels & charge the cheeky buggers £10 per wheel per day for for the time it has been stood. Removal of clamps dependant on immediate payment when they turn up for the car, charges to go up by extra £10 p/W/p/D for every 24 hours thereafter! They can't call the Police, or if they do, they will get the same fob off you got. :y

As you say. Move it in the dead of night with no witnesses & no damage to somewhere it will get lifted from. Teach the selfish so & so's a lesson.
I'm surprised the police could'nt do anything. Is'nt this tantamount to fly tipping?...unwanted items dumped on your land? There is always the local scrap man, banger racer, car thief. I know two wrongs etc. but they should'nt have left it there in the first place. ::)

jack it up, and rotate it so that's its blocking the road, local fuss would have to do something then

Brick up the end of the drive then sit back and watch the fun on their return.

I thought of this but for it to stand up in court relevant no parking signs would have to be on your house/driveway prior to the offender parking which i know is ridiculous.
How does this hang legally Broocie???? :-/

A couple of years ago I moved house and at the same time bought a new car.  I didn't want to take the old car with me and had meant to take it to the scrappers along with the V5.  Time slipped away as work, packing and moving arrangements got in the way so on the day I moved this car was still outside.  To look at it was still in reasonable nick, but wouldn't have sold for much and the engine was on it's last legs.  So, I rang the local scrappers.  They didn't ask my name, phone number or anything more than the street it was on and that it was a red Volvo.  I locked the car up and left. By the next afternoon they'd taken it.  I still had the V5 and sent it in to the DVLA a little later when it reappeared unpacking at the new house.
So, depending on how old it is, or what kind of condition it's in then a call to a local scrapyard might remove the problem :)

I'd develop a habit of being a bit careless when carrying boxes of self-tapping screws across my driveway. Might also crawl underneath and take a bit of charge from the battery as payment for parking. About 70 Amp Hours should cover it.

My "usual charge" would of course apply for jump starts and use of my air line.

If it was on an incline towards the road and the "hand brake failed" who would know,
either that or any local scrotes you could drop a tenner to remove it?

Loving the idea of building a wall, but a fair amount of work and expense.
Likewise, jacking it up and moving it - but would that trigger an alarm that could be going off for days?

I'd definitely make it disappear.............

This is a good one.  I would have applied for the log book whilst they were on holiday and then accuse them of stealing what they assumed to be thiers as it was thought of as a gift.

A bannana up the the exhaust.   ::)

A flat trype.

A lose Sump plug.........

Cat poo down the air vents.....

Change his number plates, or just remove the one nearest the house as they will try for a quick and quiet getaway.

I need to chill as this sort of thing obviously pi55es me off.

If it's a decent car,  say a omega then Join the omega owners club, post a tread stating your braking it for spares and get members to come and remove what they want, they pay u and u havnt even touched the car.
One week later you are left with a shell and some little scrap man will come and collect, job done and u have made money

Not seen pics, but if is obstructing and not just mildly annoying for visibility and manouevering:

Check:
http://www.freecarcheck.org/search for MOT
http://www.askmid.com/ownvehicle/ for insurance
tax disc

If poss drag a few feet with rope and towing eye.

Pasting one sheet of A4 asking to politely not park obstructing the driveway on the side glass is not criminal damage but annoying to remove.

Spray snow is not damaging but great fun....

Don't try the expanding foam up the exhaust and removing all sign at the tail pipe, you'll get them confounded and you'll get in trouble.....

If all else fails, find a way in, release the handbrake and persuade it somewhere else.  I got cross once, got in, released the handbrake and used my company car to ram the offending car 150yds into a tricky spot which looked like they had carelessly left the handrake off when re-locked.
Fun  :y

been away for a bit and just caught up with all your ideas-excellent!! ;D ;D

btw, on a different tack, a mate of mine was moving out of his flat so, along with a mates car, he hired a van. Unfortunately parking is a bit hard to come by round there so he ended up getting wheel clamped-at a staggering £165-each :o.Apparantly there were notices to this effect but the guys who did the clamping wouldnt entertain any leniency (oddly they both sported some facial injuries from an earlier dispute! ) so he paid the fines as he obviously needed the cars. With hindsight maybe he would have done the deflate the tyres and remove the clamp thing, but surely there is some sort of regulations to limit the amount these companies can charge/fine? I mean £40, even£60, but £165ffs!Think he'll be a bit more carefull where he parks in future....

on a serious note though I rented a workshop some time ago and a a-hole in the flats next to me kept blocking up the garage so I couldn't get cars in or out.
The police wern't intrested this went on for 4 days and cost me money in lost work so I left a note saying the car will be removed if left here again well car was still there so I paid for it to be uplifted by a proper hiab £80.
He came round the next day with police to say i'd stolen the car i imformed the sargent that it was at burgouynes safe and well the a-hole was told its not a police matter as car is not stolen as I had receipt to prove where it was.
The best bit is it cost him nearly £300 to get it back. ;D

I think I must be a little boring, but, I would scrub a nail/screw head or 2, quite suitably with a sander, before hammering it into a tyre or 2...

I would also get a suitable length of wire and a bulb connected to the altenator and suitable spot on the body, to drain and keep draining the battery  (Imagine their shock when they take it to the garage and discover the problem at hand...  Better still if they have replaced a battery)...  Done nicely, could keep a few mechanics guessing (Especially the Stealers)...

I would run some expanding foam up the exhaust, then drill a hole through it, so the engine starts and runs a low revs (would work very nicely with some black spray over the tail of the foam, to conceal it, same issue off to the mechanics, then they have to prove that you did it)...

Gaining access under the bonnet would open the door to all kinds of fun, such as polyfilla in the water and sand in the oil...

If you don't want to touch the car, a couple of large concrete bollards stuck behind it would give some you tube fun... especially if you set them 1 inch smaller than the width of the car apart...

Humiliate the b@st@rds as much as possible...  Thats my viewpoint...

mmmm

Cupfull of that would solve the parking on the drive issue, sad thing is the house would be removed as well.

Whats the point of all the other tricks if you did use a cup full.   ::)
