Title: How Do you get to buy ex plod, ex hire & cat C`s ?
Post by: Markie on 12 April 2007, 13:17:02

One of those unanswerable questions in my head right now but one i have been trying to work out.

You see all these adverts on ebay for " straight from xxx Police force" or " bought direct from insurance company as cat c / d" and "direct from lease / finance company"

Where do you go to get such cars. I am particularly intrested in the cat c/d "write offs" from insurance companies... :-/

I frequently go to the auctions in west Scotland and they just dont do insurance write offs or direct from Police....

Anyone know?

Specialist local auctions I beleive.

There is 'alledgedly' one near me, keep meaning to go and have a look.

then look for your nearest auction centre.

However, considering that the last Omega left the production line four years ago, I think you will find very few direct sales from ex-fleets, as most will have gotten rid of their Omegas long ago.

You could try raw2k.co.uk.

Look, they have an Omega TD estate for £105 (Maybe!). Just need a few welts from Sammy Sledgehammer and job's a good 'un.  :y

Omega TD Estate with 68k miles... very rare.. and it seems that all it needs is a new rear door and maybe a rear bumper?

Ex job cars from round our way used to go to Shotts but more recently, Kinross.  It is highly unlikely (IMHO impossible) to buy direct from the Police.  Reason being 'responsibility' - if its gone through auction with no reserve, the buyers have spent cash and take home what they bid on, with no comebacks or sale of goods recriminations....

Same with ex-hire.  Dunno where to look locally.  Tip - look for the little sticker on the rear of the inside mirror that a lot of companies use to put the fleet number on, rather than work off the reg plates.  Also some use a company logo type sticker on the rear offside of the boot lid while they are in service and not all are removed at auction.

For accident damaged, most salvage dealers (like Watson in Inverkeithing, amongst the top 3 largest salvave wholesalers in the UK) use a site called  blue cycle (http://www.bluecycle.com/help_auctions.html)  Its a closed shop E-bay type thing....

You need to be a bona fide dealer to get registered but with the volume of breakers passing through your hands, no doubt you could probably find a way.   ;)
