Title: pc question can i split a vga signal?
Post by: doog on 22 April 2010, 09:43:40
I need to be able to feed 2 tv's from the vga output of my laptop
both tvs are different brands  and i wondered if there is any device that would allow me to feed both screens from a single vga output from my laptop?

vga multipliers must be your answer imo

Yep, you need a splitter with a distribution amplifier for decent results. Something like this: http://www.dabs.com/products/startech-com-vga-video-splitter---distribution-amplifier-2-port-4H1F.html

Note - not a recommendation, just the first link google spat out.

Make sure it's not just a passive splitter as these will not produce satisfactory results. (an amplified box will need a power supply, for a start)

You need a proper splitter device (as per the link above) or the terminations will all be wrong and cause reflections in the signal path.

I have assumed both TVs have 15 pin analogue SVGA inputs, of course. If not, it gets a little more tricky.

..and a dull picture.

The links shown above look OK but I got caught out on a cheapo composite video one that I had to modify extensively because it just was an appalling design.
Kramer are good if not the cheapest.

Good VGA cables are quite bulky and expensive but worth it over any but the shortest run.
