Title: St George's Day tomorrow
Post by: djac on 22 April 2010, 10:04:43
For those of us who think that if it's ok for the Scots, Welsh and Irish to celebrate their patron saint's day then it must be ok to mark St George's Day.

I've left it too late to get myself a t-shirt or flag, but I have downloaded a 'Day for England' wallpaper.

And no, I'm not a racist, or a member of the BNP.

So what is her opinion of cars with the Welsh dragon flag or the Scottish saltire? If she's ok with those then it's a bit hypocritical to reject the St. George cross...

We really need to do more to reclaim the English flag for ALL English citizens. The press and media have done too good a job of linking our national flag with xenophobic racists and drunken hooliganism. Yes I know there are people like that in our society, but there are in all societies, the English are not unique in that respect.

In the UKIP manifesto, St George's Day would be a public holiday, as would St David's Day. :y

Yep, I'm still plugging them!  ;) ;D ;D

i hope you mean The Cross of St George Flag? It is illegal for anyone other than HM Ships or Shore Establishments  to 'show' the White Ensign without entitlement.  :-? ;)

Just what I was thinking!
Also the Union Flag is only a 'Jack' when it's on a boat/ship or HRH Royal Naval land-based establishment.
So you technically can't fly the Union Jack at home...........

I have my English White Dragon badge on my jacket, my large Cross of St. George to fly high, proud and clear tomorrow and a Richards III 3 Lions flag to fly too.

If people think I'm racist, then tough! ;)

I don't assume anyone flying a St George is racist  :o

It's an unfortunate situation where England seems to be the only place on the planet where you can't fly the flag - it's nuts - just fly it - who's going to stop you?
Come the world cup the place'll be covered in them anyway - most people don't have a problem with it  :y

Personally I think her refusal to ride in the car meant she wanted to walk to school.

Thankfully, my 15 year old daughter isn't a typical teenager then!
She got off her butt and had a paper round, then managed to get a nice little Saturday job.
Bit dim though - she thought St. George was the patron saint of Ireland............but it's a uniform-free day at school tomorrow, so she's borrowing my England footy shirt to wear. :y

There is nothing at all racist about being a proud member of your country and displaying your own emblem. What is actually racist are the complaints people make AGAINST anothers flag, nationality or emblem.

Fly your Cross, Saltire or Dragon with pride at any time.

on a side issue, why don't we include a cool welsh dragon in the middle of the union jack? that would be nice  8-)

On a theme, why don't we remove the Scotish and Irish crosses from our "Jack" as these areas have devoloution,as do the Welsh, and 'hey presto' we have the English flag.
Then they are on their own as we the English are :y :y :y :y
We don't have devoloution

We don't have devoloution
from memory ...

1) It's the union "jack" when flown from a naval ship
2) Its the union flag , to signify the "act of union" merging the 4 countries into the United Kingdom"
3) Devolution was used to try and end resentment from "the act of union"

why not remove the red cross - as it's :-
a) religious
b) communist
c) swiss

.. because you end up with the French flag  :y
