Mrs H21 just bought another car (Ford Fusion 1.6 CDTi - her choice, certainly not mine!) and been doing the rounds of comparing ins quotes.
She has 9 years plus no claims to her credit, no claims or convictions, and we want myself and the two kids (27 and almost 25!!) on the policy so that we have a 'hospital' car available, should one or other of our respective cars be in dock at some stage.
Now my son has an SP30 gained in 2007 whilst doing almost 70 in a 60 in his (then) Metro and is a few months short of being 25.
What amazes us thus far is the varience in quotes. Cheapest is circa £440 from the Admiral/Elephant/Diamond bunch (who are the same company anyway) through a bunch of companies I have never heard of in the £5-600 bracket, up to a grand plus.
SAGA wanted £550 or so (but not with my son on the policy) and even Ford Insurance themselves wanted £700.
I realise there are introductory rates and all that but it is a fair old difference for what is, in effect, a granny bus!! ;D

He got points for that? He should have got a pat on the back for braving 70mph in a Metro ;D ;D ;D
It amazed me the diference in price for SWMBO similar bog standard 1600 Astra.
Admiral insured my 20yr old daughter for about 6/7 months to the end of the policy on her Mum's Astra for £160. This year, another company, they want £350 for a similar period (for said daughter to use to go to Glastonbury) on my crappy Astra TD

Insurance is a minefield isn't it? :o
Mind you, they could never be accused of operating a price fixing Cartel could they!!!! ::) :y

I am happy with Admiral bunch - what is quote from them if you drop son off policy quote? then make him pay difference if he wants to drive it

I've just taken out a traders policy due to the fact I spent nearly £200 on on day insurance policies last year and my own insurance is £250 per year. The first quote I got was almost £600 but the more insurance companies you speak to the lower the quote was becoming, each wanting to beat the previous quote. I ended up paying £353.90 with Liverpool Victoria so i've saved a few bob :)

The addition of my son and his SP30 adds about £200 to the quote. If I remove him from the equation and increase the voluntary excess from zero to £100 then the best quote is just over £200.
Not done the playing one against the other bit so far.... ;D
Will chat it over but it looks like he will not be on the policy and, if he needs the car, then he will have to do the day/week insure bit. ;D

Admiral quoted me/daughter £35 a week to add her.
