Title: New computer - been looking today .......
Post by: Seth on 01 May 2010, 22:16:59
...... at getting the latest 21.5" iMac.

Had a test-drive in-store, was well-impressed, and loved it. :y
Got Mrs Sethsmate's approval too, and after superb service with our present eMac, we're seriously contemplating going ahead with getting one. :D

Anyone had any experiences/got any pointers?

Point taken mate ......
Whilst I'm certainly not claiming to be 'computer-literate', I've had excellent tuition on Macs; and find 'em first-rate.
 :y

Purely my experiences and opinions, you understand! ;)

What I mean is, a mate of mine has always had macs but uses PC's in work. He finds the macs a lot more user-friendly and logical to use

It is all dependant of your requirements and if your budget can afford it,
I have used macs and in general have no real issue with them but prefer a PC but if you are editing pictures, making posters etc then it is excellent :y

Given what I use home PC's for, Macs are over priced for the application and offer no advantages for me.

Yes Mark, no-one, but no-one, will negotiate price-wise with Macs. :-/

You might get a cable thrown-in to the deal, but that's about it mate :'(

Bugger, I do like 'em though! :y

Done the biz lads!
:D

Got home, went on-line to the AppleStore, and said 21.5" iMac should be here middle of next week.
Also got latest version of iWork pre-programmed in, and with student discount (on behalf of Miss Sethsmate), I reckon that a very fair deal was had!

When we got our present eMac four or five years back, I was most impressed with Apple's service - total support start to finish.
 8-)

Oh - and (most importantly), Mrs Sethsmate's happy too.
Sod the expense eh!
 ;D

Cheers Banjax mate!
:y

I'm certainly not a computer 'whizz', but this jobbie sold itself to me, along with Apple's brilliant support and service.
If this iMac performs like our present eMac, I'll be a happy bunny!

you don't need to be - its all very intuitive, so much so i doubt you'll ever need any support from apple - I haven't and I'm clueless  :y

I am getting a new work PC and they are putting Windows 7 on it - I wanted XP Pro.

As soon as they said W7 I said change from Q8300 to Q8400 and add another 2 GB of RAM.

If you're that bothered by 7 Martin you can run virtual XP within it.
