Hello everybody out there, does anyone know if unfair bank charges levied on business bank accounts can be reclaimed like those charged to personel accounts
Thanks in advance
Tony

I don't know the answer for fact, but from other dealings I had with the banks it seems that business customers have none of the legal protection that consumers do, the assumption being that as a business you should know what you are doing or employ an accountant / solicitor etc.
Also, my Natwest Business Card may seem and work like a credit card, but because it is a 'business' card they have no responsibility and I have no protection at all (for example if I buy online and don't get the goods, these sort of things) , unlike when I buy with my private credit card.
So I am not very hopeful. :(

For full information suggest you look at www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk
OFT have not yet made a ruling on anything other than late fees on credit cards so it's up to the individual banks.
Business account tariffs are generally pay for use ie 20p per credit etc but unpaid fees for small items ie less than the £38 charge would be looked at. You can claim fees back for up to 6 years but the website above has bank specific info, and letter templates to use.
And no I'm not a member :P

Not strictly true Markjay - extrct from Natwest site:
NatWest Secure is a new service making shopping online safer.
What is NatWest Secure?
NatWest Secure provides added protection to internet purchases by allowing you to use a password to authenticate payments. This ensures that only the genuine cardholder is able to make purchases online, giving greater peace of mind.
How does it work?
It's simple. You begin by selecting your own private password. When you shop and check out at participating online merchants, you are automatically prompted to enter some random characters from the password - this verifies you as the genuine cardholder, just like entering a PIN at the ATM.
Can I register more than one card?
Yes, you can register any NatWest Business Card, Business Charge Card, onecard, Corporate Card or Purchasing Card. The only requirement is that all cards must be in your own name.
How do I register?
This new service is free and once you have registered you can start making secure purchases using your NatWest card. There's no need to sign up for a new card, or download any new software.
If you do not register here, certain retailers may ask you to register your card whilst completing a purchase: the process is very similar.

I have Natwest Secure, and it's fine for sites that use it... but many sites don't, and also the same when I buy something in a shop... I bought a Nokia Bluetooth Headset a couple of years ago, it was faulty, the shop gave me grief... I wrote to Natwest and quoted the Consumer Credit Act asking for a refund, they said sorry, we can't help... it's a Business Card so we are not liable...

I just received £2000 from Barclays to settle my claim for charges going back over six years!
As well as Consumer action group another good website is http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/
Both sites have guides & templates to send to the banks - takes a couple of months but it's worth it !
You can only claim back 'unfair' or 'penalty' charges - not account fees etc.
