Post by: plym ian on 05 May 2010, 23:06:14
This always puzzles me how come the government want to focus on education yet close schools for voting? My kids love it but the missus doesn't

I hate New Labour, I simply loathe all it stands for but, in all honesty, many - if not the majority -of the schools that are closed for polling tomorrow (including that of my children) have closed for polling for the last 50 years or more!! It is done for reasons of practicality, when there are no alternative church halls etc., available.

Nothing to do with New Labour...or Tories...or Limp Dems!  ::)

You can't blame them for closing schools for polling day, been going on for years, even in the Thatcher days :D :D
Miss Vamps is disgusted that her school is open and the parish hall is being used as the polling station, still it is a Labour council who believe in education, no closing of our school....... :D :D :D

Yes you  are right Nick, but why has the last government who one way or another have apparently been in power to change things for the last 13 years, with "education, education, education" being a battle slogan not done so??!! ::) ::) ;)

It should have been - dumbing down, dumbing down, dumbing down. Despite Bliars mantra, education standards have dropped to a shocking level in the last 13 years.
Like everything else, they thought that throwing huge amounts of money at it would automatically make it better.

Btw Andrew Neill is currently giving Harriet Harman a hard time on BBC news channel.  :)

On the same theme................................
The NHS save money, because of Government cut backs, by closing wards, aren't wards meant to be for sick people. If they close wards does that mean we have less sick people.
Therefore, if we close all wards we will not be ill. :y

Logic is lost on me :'(

The money they save by closing the wards allows them to employ more managers, administrators etc who can ensure that in theory the government targets are being met, and they in turn can then reassure us that they are making the NHS better. seemples :y

Agreed. The NHS is bloated and inefficient.

It could be a lean care-led, efficient and still free service, but it needs some serious attention...starting from the top, not the bottom.  :y
