Title: Insurance Companies
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 05 May 2010, 18:59:54
Got a quote of Swiftcare earlier, wasnt impressed, after some checking I was no worse off staying with Admiral MC.  Allthough it now seems I live in a higher risk area due to having a lower post code than my previous address.

Did some playing with the swiftcare quote system.

All prices are based on a 2.5 GLS V plate (99) full no claims, no accidents etc.

Poor bugger that gets made redundant and loses his job cant even get insured with these sods.

My Peugeot 205 is insured with Swiftcover.  I'm unemployed and my son, the second driver, is a student.  It's not cheap, but we haven't been declined.  Every other company was more expensive.

The cheapest profession is Bank Manager for insurance. I personally can't see what difference it makes what job you do :-?
A Bank Manager is likely to drive more miles than say a Bar Maid, but their insurance is cheaper ::)
It's all arse about face :(

I hate to say it Pete, but I agree with you.

I also dont understand why they wont give an unemployed person a chance, and why they take the Pi55 with people that have access to booze, Most Managing Directors I know have a bottle in the desk draw and are just as likely to have a tipple before going home.

A lot of you might not get paid out the way insurance companies are these days.

If you car is anything other than bog standard and you have any sort of modification and the accesor finds out after an accident then you risk gettinf penalised.

Lower profile tyres, bigger or different alloys, tints, SS exhuaust, even just an air filter mod.

Also read the small print on your certificate about the useage, social, domestic and pleasure.  (now read the next bit about work) :-/

'trouble is if you 'withhold information' then you can be uninsured even though you have paid your hard-earned cash for the premium.  Isn't that the worst of all worlds?   :(

It must be ever so frustrating, to be declined car insurance solely on the basis you don't have a job, especially when it's no fault of your own.

Bit of a catch 22, at the end of the day, you need the car to get to inverviews, to get a job - but can't drive there without insurance. Nightmare!

I can honestly see why you might feel this way - but, it's worth being careful with this.

Technically, it's an offence of making a false declaration to obtain insurance.. and if found out, your insurance could be revoked.

Realistically, the penalty in court probably won't kill you, but the bigger implication would come in the form of really struggling to gain insurance in future. Any potential companies knowing someone has made a false declaration before, or who has had insurance revoked, are unlikely to touch that customer with a barge pole.

Note, am genuinely not having a dig - just what I hope is a balanced / informative bit of info.

Have you considered trying a few other companies - or maybe a comparison site?  :y

Perhaps 'retired' or 'gardener' would sound better than 'unemployed'?

Good point about ever getting insurance in the future!  Remember the insurers share information so it's easy to get caught! :(
