Graham's number is the largest number ever used in a serious mathematical proof, a number so large that there are not enough molecules in the universe to create the ink to allow it to be printed :D
call me weird but i love stuff like that.
its all to do with determining the conditions at which a given property of hypercubes or n-cubes (multidimensional boxes, where n is the number of dimensions, apparently) is guaranteed to be true....or something.......anyway, i'll repeat -
there isn't enough matter in the universe to write this number down,
god i love the internet on sleepless nights :y

there isn't enough matter in the universe to write this number down
but what about the multiverse? :o

good point - only if its infinite could i definitely say yes, there would be enough material to make the ink :y

Also in theory where everything is possible in at least 1 multiverse there would be enough material to write it down.
I wonder how many peoples heads are hurting reading this ;D

probably just the 2 of us reading it - ;D

Certainly looks that way :D

The problem with cosmology and its associated disciplines is that until we can actually witness the given theory proposed in practice it remains difficult to appreciate.
However........

I am no mathmetician, but isn't this where "the power to the........".and equations come in to calculate the reality of any sum or theory? :-/ :-/

like the best puzzles - the solution seems simple (the solution to the n-cube ramsey theory was apparently thought to be 6 until fairly recently......then some genius thought...hang on a sec.....) :y
i dont even understand the question, let alone the solution Liz ;D

Well that makes two of us BJ! ;D ;D ;D ;)

The essence to all these musings must surely be that we, as a species in this neck of the cosmos, are utterly inconsequential and will remain so irrespective of history, achievement, desire, political affiliation, wealth, standing or intelligence 8-) 8-) :y

Its worse than that, he's dead jim ;D ;D ;D

Mmmmm after reading all of this i think i'll stick to reading The Sun cos i'm simples ;D ;D ;D

i don't understand what the number means really - its just mind-boggingly huge :D :y
